Akkodis is seeking a Sr. Oracle Database Engineer for a Direct Hire position with a client located in Pittsburgh, PA. Ideally looking for applicants with a solid background in the financial services industry.
Salary Range: $150k to $170k annually + benefits. The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.
Responsibilities
Sr. Database Engineer job responsibilities include:
- Architect and implement scalable Oracle database solutions for high-throughput applications
- Design and manage cross-region replication and fault-tolerant architectures
- Drive performance tuning and optimization (query tuning, indexing, partitioning)
- Enforce data security and encryption standards (data at rest/in transit, access controls)
- Partner with engineering teams on data modeling, PL/SQL development, and system design
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and database reliability standards (SLOs)
- Integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines (Liquibase, Flyway, or similar)
- Contribute to modernization efforts, including Snowflake and Databricks integrations
Requirements
To fulfill this role the Sr. Database Engineer will be required to:
- Database & Data
- Oracle (primary environment; migrating to Exadata)
- PL/SQL, stored procedures, and performance tooling (AWR, SQL Trace, TKPROF)
- Microsoft Azure (primary)
- Cross-region failover and disaster recovery
- Snowflake
- Databricks
- Experience in regulated environments (e.g., FedRAMP or similar)
- Database encryption (TDE, in-transit security)
- Access controls and least privilege design
- Auditing and compliance standards
Qualifications
- Query optimization and code generation assistance
- Test generation and validation
- Reviewing and debugging AI-assisted outputs
- 9–11+ years of experience in database engineering or related roles
- Deep expertise in Oracle database internals and performance tuning
- Strong experience with replication, high availability, and fault tolerance
- Experience integrating databases into modern CI/CD workflows
- Background in financial services or regulated environments is a plus
- Experience designing mission-critical, high-availability data systems
- Strong understanding of data architecture and distributed systems
- Ability to communicate and drive technical standards across teams
- Proven ability to operate in fast-paced, delivery-focused environments
