Senior Product Designer, Design Systems
Omnicell
About the role
Position Overview
At Omnicell, we are on a mission to revolutionize the health tech industry by defining the vision of the Autonomous Pharmacy. We are seeking an exceptional Senior Product Designer, Design Systems to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will be the primary architect of a scalable design foundation powering the entire Omnicell ecosystem—from mobile apps and cloud‑based intelligence dashboards (Omni Sphere) to hardware‑integrated touch interfaces for our Automated Dispensing Cabinets (Titan XT). Your work will ensure consistency and scalability across our product suite while making a tangible difference in the lives of healthcare professionals and patients alike.
Key Responsibilities
System Architecture & Library Management
- Own the Master Library: serve as the point‑person for the centralized Figma library, ensuring strict organization and logical naming conventions.
- Token Strategy: architect and manage a sophisticated system of design tokens and variables, ensuring seamless translation from design to code.
- Cross‑Platform Patterns: create and evolve components that scale gracefully across our hardware ecosystem, addressing UI challenges for desktop, touch interfaces, and multiple screen sizes.
Documentation & Governance
- Comprehensive Guidelines: author documentation that defines when and why to use specific patterns to support patient safety and workflow efficiency.
- Accessibility First: incorporate WCAG principles into every component, ensuring semantic HTML structure, appropriate contrast, and sizing.
Design Operations & Mentorship
- Figma Evangelism: act as the internal “Figma Wizard” by mentoring the design team on advanced features (e.g., Auto Layout, Variable Modes, Prototyping) and best practices for file organization.
- Contribution Model: define and lead the process for integrating new design patterns from the team.
The Design‑Engineering Bridge
- System Compliance & QA: serve as the final quality gate before development by reviewing design artifacts for adherence to system standards and ensuring files are “dev‑ready”.
- Technical Translation: collaborate closely with front‑end developers to streamline implementation and reduce process friction.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of Product Design experience, including at least 2 years specifically focused on Design Systems, supported by a strong portfolio.
- Expert‑level proficiency in Figma—with deep knowledge of component properties, nested instances, auto‑layouts, variables, and advanced interactive prototyping.
- Working experience with modern front‑end frameworks (e.g., Angular) and a solid understanding of CSS/Sass, semantic HTML, and the translation of design to code.
- Experience designing for a variety of input modalities and screen sizes, with a strong commitment to and understanding of WCAG guidelines.
- Proven mentorship skills and a system‑level mindset, capable of seeing how individual design changes affect the broader product ecosystem.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience committing code and navigating development workflows.
- Background in healthcare, enterprise software, or “safety critical” environments.
- Familiarity with hardware‑software integration concepts (e.g., kiosks, wearables).
