Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Apple

flexible Full-time Senior Today

About the role

About

Apple is looking for a senior, customer focused Site Reliability Engineer to enhance, develop, and maintain the internal services and tools that enable Apple's Silicon Engineering Group to design industry leading silicon. In this highly visible role you will become the EMEIA Direct Responsible Individual (DRI) for two platforms that are central to how the silicon design teams work day to day: Perforce and GitLab. You will be the regional partner of choice for the design customers who depend on them.

You will be the single point of accountability in EMEIA for these platforms, working hand in hand with the US based service owners, and acting as the trusted technical advisor to internal design customers across Europe and the Middle East. The work is hands on at a senior level, covering break/fix, version upgrades, greenfield installs, change management, capacity planning, CI/CD workflow design, and most importantly , sitting with engineering customers to engineer the right solution for their workflow.

This is not a pure specialist role. Beyond the two focus areas, you will also contribute to the day to day operations of the broader Linux compute and storage environment that the wider CSG team supports, and provide auxiliary support for adjacent DevOps tooling such as artifact management and container orchestration.

You should be comfortable in a fast paced, collaborative, DevOps minded environment, energised by being the only person in the region holding a service, and motivated by the challenge of cross training local SREs to extend first line coverage while you remain the deep technical authority . Developing and fostering partnerships with cross functional teams (silicon design, software, IT, security , networking) is key to long term success.

Description

You will be the EMEIA face of Perforce and GitLab for Apple's Silicon Engineering Group, owning the regional health, performance, and customer experience of these services end to end, while operating as a fully integrated member of the global, US headquartered service teams. You will help ensure that hardware and software engineers alike have access to modern tooling and processes, and you will evangelise performant workflows across the design teams you support.

A typical week blends deep engineering work with customer engagement: leading a Perforce edge server upgrade with the US owners, sizing a new GitLab runner pool for a design team's CI burst, troubleshooting a Perforce replication issue with a customer, sitting with a design lead to architect a new project workflow, and pitching in on broader compute and storage incidents when the wider CSG team needs hands.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the EMEIA DRI for Perforce and GitLab, owning regional service health, customer escalations, change execution, and the regional voice into the global service roadmap.
  • Operate at a senior level across the full lifecycle of these platforms: install, configure, upgrade, patch, performance tune, capacity plan, back up, restore, and decommission.
  • Engineer solutions together with customers. Partner with silicon design teams to translate workflow requirements into reliable, scalable infrastructure designs, and promote performant CI/CD patterns.
  • Partner closely with the US based service owners on architecture, change windows, on call hand offs, runbooks, and roadmap. Time zone overlap with the US west coast is part of the job.
  • Cross train EMEIA SREs on first line break/fix for the focus services, building runbooks, paved paths, and training material so coverage scales beyond a single person.
  • Provide auxiliary support for adjacent revision control systems and DevOps tooling, including artifact management, container registries, build infrastructure, and secrets management. Participate in programs to deploy proof of concept systems for evaluation and testing.
  • Contribute to day to day operations of the wider CSG environment: Linux compute, NFS and NAS storage, monitoring, configuration management, and general infrastructure services.
  • Drive service resiliency and automation, including service failover and auto remediation wherever practical. Identify toil and drive automation to improve the consistent stability of the environment.
  • Participate in an on call rotation scoped to the two focus areas (Perforce and GitLab). On call is not expected for the broader compute and storage estate.
  • Mentor and collaborate across all levels and disciplines, contributing to a culture of curiosity , openness, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • SRE, DevOps, and system administration foundation
  • deep operational experience in multiple Version Control Systems at senior administrator level. Experience in Perforce and Gitlab is a strong plus.
