About the Role
This position involves complex software research, design, and development within a functional domain or software product line. It also includes direct contribution to project plans, schedules, and methodologies used for cross-functional software product development.
This function includes software design – typically across multiple systems – mentoring more junior team members, and communicating with users or clients to translate their needs into technical solutions.
Technical Skills
- Advanced knowledge of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).
- Strong proficiency in data manipulation languages, including optimization techniques.
- Good understanding of normalized and dimensional data modeling principles.
- Solid knowledge of several data storage subsystems.
- Expertise in development languages, including: Java/J2EE, JavaScript, JSP, C/C++, HTML, XML, SQL, Windows, UNIX, and .Net.
- Excellent research and analytical skills.
- Good knowledge of industry best development practices.
- Knowledge of using and developing appropriate software tools.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with other technical experts or team members to finalize requirements.
- Ability to work effectively with internal and external technical resources.
- Knowledge of Test-Driven Development (TDD).
- Ability to write and revise detailed specification sections for the development of complex system components.
- Ability to fix complex bugs.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with other technical or team members to finalize requirements.
- Write and revise parts of detailed specifications for the development of complex system components.
- Fix complex bugs.
- Work closely with other members of the development team to understand complex product requirements and translate them into software designs.
- Effectively implement development processes, good coding practices, and code reviews.
- Work in various development environments (Agile, Waterfall, etc.) while collaborating with key stakeholders.
- Resolve complex technical problems as needed.
- Train junior software engineers, as directed by management, to ensure their understanding of essential aspects of their role.
- Stay informed about new technologies.
- Design and manipulate complex data models.
- Mentor less experienced software developers on development methodologies and optimization techniques.
- Perform any other assigned tasks.
