We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing account reconciliations, and supporting various accounting functions across multiple platforms. Your expertise will help ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls, and industry best practices. Previous non profit experience is a HUGE bonus!
Pay is based on experience IN OFFICE HOURS Monday-Friday 9am-5pm
Duties
- Prepare and analyze journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger adjustments to ensure accurate financial reporting
- Conduct balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies efficiently using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or PeopleSoft
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice processing and payment management with systems like Paychex, ADP, Ceridian, or UltiPro
- Support payroll management activities by collaborating with payroll providers such as Kronos or ADP to ensure timely and accurate employee payments
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures, including financial statement preparation and audit support
- Perform data entry tasks with high accuracy using 10 key typing skills and double entry bookkeeping techniques
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations through detailed tax experience and proper documentation of financial transactions
- Contribute to internal controls by supporting SOX compliance initiatives and documenting procedures for audit readiness
- Support budgeting processes, account analysis, and financial forecasting efforts to aid strategic planning initiatives
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on governmental accounting projects or non-profit accounting requirements as needed
Skills
- Strong understanding of GAAP standards, SOX controls, and technical accounting principles
- Proficiency in various accounting software including QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, Workday, UltiPro, Ceridian, Kronos, ADP or similar platforms
- Experience with payroll management systems such as Paychex or ADP is highly desirable
- Knowledge of governmental accounting standards and non-profit accounting practices is a plus
- Ability to perform detailed account analysis and reconcile complex accounts accurately
- Excellent math skills combined with a solid understanding of financial concepts such as debits & credits, journal entries, general ledger reconciliation, and account reconciliation processes
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently under tight deadlines
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with internal teams and external auditors
- Attention to detail in data entry and bookkeeping tasks to maintain high-quality financial records
