How You'll Contribute

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the Lifepoint Business Services (LBS) organization by performing a variety of accounting tasks, primarily preparing journal entries, reviewing journal entries for proper approvals and support, and assisting facility and LBS teams with various financial analyses and reporting.

A Staff Accountant II Who Excels In This Role

  • Maintain accurate general ledger accounting for health care joint ventures (e.g., physician practice JVs, ambulatory surgery centers, managed service organizations, value-based care entities)
  • Record JV transactions in compliance with JV agreements, GAAP, and health care-specific accounting guidance
  • Prepare and reconcile partner billings, management fees, cost-sharing arrangements, and shared service allocations
  • Calculate and record partner contributions, distributions, and profit/loss allocations based on ownership and contractual terms
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations, payables, payroll liabilities, and intercompany accounts
  • Ensure financial activity aligns with JV agreements
  • Support month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and financial analyses
  • Assist internal and external audits by preparing schedules, support documentation, and variance explanations
  • Maintain organized documentation for JV agreements, amendments, and financial support
  • Work closely with the site liaison, local facility, HSC, and other LBS teams to record journal entries, ensure journal entries contain proper approval and support, and ensure journal entries are recorded correctly
  • Work closely with the site liaison team through month-end close process to ensure journal entries are recorded according to month-end close schedules as documented in the month-end close checklists
  • Manage the monthly journal entry volume for a range of facilities or general ledger accounts
  • Work closely with Site Liaison and other LBS teams with journal entry analysis, including providing support for entries
  • Support general ledger, subledger, and journal entry analysis as needed, including ability to use reporting tools such as OTBI to query transactions to perform necessary research and analysis
  • Review and scrutinize journal entries for appropriateness and accounting validity
  • Collaborates with operations in accordance with close checklists during the month-end close process
  • Identify continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What We're Looking For

Applicants should have a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. Additional qualifications include:

  • 2+ years of experience, preferably within the healthcare or hospital industry.
  • Joint Venture experience a plus.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.

Salary Range

$57,805 - $78,036 per year.
