Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and execute geotechnical field work
- Use GIS/GPS and related technology to aid in planning and executing geotechnical field work
- Log test borings in the field
- Observe geotechnical‑related construction and perform materials testing
- Prepare field reports
- Use AutoCAD and GIS to create plan sheets and figures for reports
- Assign and review laboratory tests
- Interpret data and perform calculations to support geotechnical designs
- Provide support on preparation of geotechnical reports and proposals
- Communicate with subcontractors, project managers, and clients about project progress and milestones to facilitate project performance
Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related major from an ABET‑accredited program
- 0‑2 years of professional experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel, including assignments that may last several weeks to months away from the office
- Positive, outgoing attitude
- Ability to coordinate, multi‑task, and communicate with subcontractors, managers, and clients by phone, email, video‑chat, and other means of communication
- Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self‑improvement
- Valid Driver's License
- Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, hike difficult terrain, enter trenches, climb ladders and work outside
- Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check
- Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug screening
- EIT certification
- Geotechnical‑focused undergraduate coursework is preferred
- Prior internship or professional work in a related field (i.e., geotechnical engineering, construction, civil engineering, etc.)
- Prior internship experience in construction materials testing
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil3D or similar drafting programs
