Job Description

We approach problems with creativity and innovation. The E&E Richmond office of Schnabel is seeking a Staff Engineer to join our team of multi-disciplinary professionals. We are looking for a motivated candidate able to learn quickly, with a desire to develop both field and analytical skills, and a desire to be part of a strong team.
Job Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and execute geotechnical and site investigation field work
- Use GIS/GPS and related technology to aid in planning and executing geotechnical and site investigation field work
- Observe civil and environmental-related construction
- Prepare field reports
- Use AutoCAD Civil 3D to create plan sheets and figures for reports
- Assign and review laboratory tests
- Interpret data and perform calculations to support civil and environmental designs including, stormwater management and erosion and sediment control
- Provide support on preparation of reports and proposals
- Communicate with subcontractors, project managers, and clients about project progress and milestones to facilitate project performance
- Support civil and environmental engineering projects with the preparation of construction permit documents, including land-disturbance permitting, solid waste permitting, and other permitting required for project construction;
- Support contractor bid analysis and review for various civil and environmental projects;
Required Skills/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or related major from an ABET-accredited program
- 0-2 years of professional experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel, including assignments that may last several weeks to months away from the office
- Positive, outgoing attitude
- Ability to coordinate, multi-task, and communicate with subcontractors, managers, and clients by phone, email, video-chat, and other means of communication
- Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, hike difficult terrain, enter trenches, climb ladders and work outside
Desired Skills/Experience
- EIT certification
- Prior internship or professional work in a related field (i.e. geotechnical engineering, construction, civil and environmental engineering, etc.)
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil3D or similar drafting programs
Other Requirements
- Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
The compensation range for this position is between $57,200 to $86,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
