We are actively seeking a Staff Engineer II / Project Engineer – Structural (Water/Wastewater) in our Location office. This position may be filled at either the Staff Engineer II or Project Engineer level based on the selected candidate’s skills, experience, and licensure.

As a Staff Engineer II or Project Engineer – Structural (Water/Wastewater) with HRG, you will focus on the structural analysis and design of water and wastewater facilities, supporting projects such as reinforced concrete tanks, pump stations, treatment facilities, retaining walls, and other critical infrastructure. This role offers the opportunity to grow strong technical expertise while working on projects with lasting community impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and/or lead the structural design and analysis of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including in-ground and above-ground concrete tanks, treatment and process structures, pump stations, and retaining walls
  • Perform and check structural calculations in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, ACI 350, AISC, and other relevant criteria
  • Prepare structural drawings, details, technical specifications, and reports used for permitting, bidding, and construction
  • Assist in or lead the development of construction contract documents, including plans, specifications, and structural cost estimates
  • Review structural submittments, shop drawings, and contractor requests for compliance with design intent and applicable standards
  • Conduct field inspections and site visits to evaluate existing conditions, observe construction progress, and verify compliance with design documents and safety requirements
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, water/wastewater process, electrical, and construction professionals to deliver coordinated structural solutions
  • For Project Engineer–level candidates, support project managers with structural scope coordination, scheduling, documentation, and technical review
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to support structural design reviews and technical discussions
  • Ensure work aligns with HRG’s quality control standards and sound structural engineering practices, and identify opportunities to improve constructability, durability, and efficiency

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field with an emphasis on structural engineering
  • Experience with structural design for water and wastewater or municipal infrastructure projects
  • Working knowledge of structural design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318 and/or ACI 350, AISC, or similar
  • Familiarity with structural analysis, design, and drafting/modeling tools (e.g., RISA, RAM, EnerCalc, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar)
  • Effective utilization of common business platforms such as Microsoft Office Suite, virtual meeting tools, project management systems, etc.
  • Flexibility to travel to job sites, meetings, and other offices as necessary, which may include overnight stays
  • Valid US Driver’s License is required

Additional Qualifications – Staff Engineer II

  • Minimum of 2 years of consulting engineering experience
  • Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certification preferred
  • Experience preparing structural calculations, drawings, and reports under the supervision of senior engineers

  • Minimum of 2 years of consulting engineering experience
  • Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certification preferred
