Staff Product Manager

DiscoverCars.com

Remote (Global) Full-time Lead 5d ago

About the role

Join DiscoverCars.com and help us scale the world's leading global car-rental marketplace. We're seeking a visionary Staff Product Manager to lead our Insurance Innovation & Ancillary Products domain, driving the strategy and execution of innovative products that transform how customers experience peace of mind while travelling. Working at the intersection of our core marketplace and Sincera (our insurance company), you'll pioneer new revenue streams while delivering genuine value that enhances every customer journey.

This role is the single point of accountability for our insurance and ancillary products end-to-end. While execution might involve multiple teams, this role owns the overall insurance product outcomes, coherence of the proposition, and long-term customer and business value.

Responsibilities

  • Own the insurance product strategy and proposition coherence: Define and evolve the insurance and ancillary product strategy with a strong focus on customer trust, clarity, and long-term value.
  • Lead innovation responsibly by ensuring new products, experiments, and propositions strengthen the overall insurance value proposition and customer confidence.
  • Own end-to-end insurance performance and outcomes: Accountable for insurance and ancillary product performance across the full lifecycle (pre/post-booking, and claims), including attach rate, removal rate, claim rate, insurance-driven repeat booking impact, and average revenue per booking.
  • Proactively identify issues, drive alignment across teams, and ensure problems are addressed end-to-end.
  • Champion Customer-Centricity: Conduct deep customer research and data analysis to uncover unmet needs in the travel protection space, designing solutions that genuinely reduce customer anxiety and enhance their travel experience rather than focusing on short-term revenue.
  • Operate as a central orchestrator across teams: Act as the coordinating product manager across DiscoverCars and Sincera, aligning Product, Engineering, Commercial, Legal, Risk, and Data teams.
  • Drive outcomes through influence and clear decision-making, ensuring consistent execution against a single insurance product direction.
  • Execute with Excellence: Translate complex insurance concepts and business requirements into clear, actionable product roadmaps, working hands-on with engineering and UX teams to deliver high-quality products that meet both customer expectations and regulatory standards.
  • Foster Innovation Culture: Actively mentor and coach other product managers, sharing expertise in ancillary revenue strategies, insurance product development, and data-driven decision making to elevate the entire product organization's capabilities.
  • Embrace Emerging Technologies: Leverage AI, machine learning, and other cutting-edge technologies to personalize insurance offerings, optimize pricing strategies, and create more intelligent customer experiences that drive both satisfaction and profitability.
  • Navigate Complexity: Balance multiple stakeholder requirements across customer needs, regulatory compliance, supplier relationships, and business objectives while maintaining focus on delivering incremental, measurable improvements in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Mandatory:

  • Proven senior product leadership experience: 6+ years of experience in complex, multi-stakeholder environments, with demonstrated ownership of end-to-end outcomes and a track record of making high-judgment decisions under regulatory, commercial, and customer constraints.
  • Commercial Acumen: Proven ability to identify, validate, and monetize new business opportunities, with experience optimizing key metrics like attach rates, ARPB, and customer lifetime value in growth-oriented companies.
  • Data-Driven Excellence: Advanced analytical skills including proficiency with SQL, analytics platforms, and A/B testing methodologies, with ability to translate complex data insights into actionable product decisions and compelling stakeholder narratives.
  • Customer Empathy: Strong user research and discovery skills, with demonstrated ability to understand customer pain points and translate them into innovative product solutions that drive both satisfaction and business results.
  • Execution Focus: Excellent project management and cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience working in agile environments and managing complex product roadmaps involving multiple engineering, design, and business teams.
  • Communication Leadership: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of influencing senior stakeholders, aligning cross-functional teams, and clearly articulating complex technical and business concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong domain judgment in regulated environments: Experience working closely with legal, risk, and compliance stakeholders, with the ability to balance regulatory constraints, customer clarity, and commercial impact when shaping product decisions.

Desired:

  • Insurance/Fintech Experience: Background in insurance product development, subscription models, or financial services, with understanding of underwriting, claims processes, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Marketplace Expertise: Experience building ancillary products in two-sided marketplaces or travel platforms, with understanding of supplier relationships and multi-stakeholder product dynamics.
  • Technical Depth: Comfort with API integrations, payment systems, and complex technical architectures that support insurance and subscription products.
  • Growth Mindset: Enthusiasm for emerging technologies including AI/ML applications in personalization, pricing optimization, and customer experience enhancement.
  • International Experience: Familiarity with multi-market product development, including understanding of regional regulatory differences and localization requirements.
  • Mentorship Experience: Previous experience coaching junior product managers or contributing to product organization development and best practices.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive compensation package, aligned with senior-level responsibilities and market benchmarks.
  • A high-impact leadership role with the opportunity to influence a platform used by millions of customers worldwide.
  • Strategic ownership — the ability to shape strategy, systems, and processes from the ground up and drive meaningful, measurable change.
  • An innovative, fast-moving environment that values initiative, independent thinking, and executive-level decision-making.
  • Ongoing professional development, including structured executive training programs and 8 hours of paid self-development time per month.
  • Global exposure, working closely with a diverse, multicultural leadership team and gaining international experience.
  • Premium employee benefits, including exclusive car rental discounts for you, your family, and friends.
  • Strong company culture, with department-level team initiatives and company-wide events such as our Winter Ball and Summer Festival.
