Statutory Reporting Accountant (Contract)

A well-established business based in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town is urgently seeking a hands-on Statutory Reporting Accountant to join their finance team on a temporary contract due to increased team capacity demands and upcoming audit deadlines.

This role requires someone who can hit the ground running, work independently with minimal onboarding, and take ownership of statutory reporting, compliance, and audit deliverables.

Please note: Only candidates currently based in Cape Town will be considered. Unfortunately, candidates looking to relocate are not being considered for this opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:

• Full ownership of the Trial Balance and General Ledger integrity
• Ensure monthly reconciliations, supporting schedules, and balance sheet accuracy
• Prepare Annual Financial Statements (AFS) in line with IFRS
• Manage the external audit process and resolve audit queries efficiently
• Prepare and review tax schedules, tax computations, and submissions
• Oversee VAT returns and ensure local/international compliance
• Reconcile and maintain intercompany transactions and balances
• Ensure strong financial governance, controls, and regulatory compliance
• Manage period-end journals and financial adjustments

Immediate Priority Deliverables:

• Audit readiness and managing the upcoming audit process (Audit starts in July)
• Drafting AFS independently
• Tax schedules and tax computations (Deadline end June)
• VAT and compliance management
• General ledger / balance sheet integrity and reconciliations

Requirements:

• Completed articles / audit-trained preferred
• 3–5+ years’ experience in financial accounting / statutory reporting
• Strong commercial industry experience post articles
• Strong experience with:
  • Financial statement preparation
  • Tax & VAT compliance
  • Audit management
• Experience in manufacturing
• ERP experience
• Available immediately / short notice

Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for a hands-on technical accountant rather than purely qualified. A CA(SA) would be advantageous, but is not essential.
