Role Overview
Vennote Technologies is seeking a highly skilled Storage & Backup Engineer to oversee the health, performance, and security of our client’s data storage infrastructure. You will be responsible for the end-to-end administration of their storage and backup environments, ensuring that mission-critical data is always available, protected, and recoverable.
The ideal candidate possesses deep technical expertise in EMC and HP 3par architectures and maintains a proactive approach to troubleshooting complex SAN and backup failures.
Key Responsibilities
Storage & SAN Administration
- Manage and maintain enterprise storage arrays including EMC Power Max, VMAX, VNX, ECS, and HP 3par.
- Handle LUN creation, storage provisioning, and space management to meet organizational demands.
- Administer Brocade Switches, including zoning and troubleshooting backend storage connectivity.
- Perform hardware/software maintenance, such as upgrading HBA firmware and drivers across UNIX and Windows environments.
Data Protection & Backup Management
- Oversee the backup ecosystem using EMC Networker, Data Domain, Avamar, and DPA.
- Configure and monitor backup schedules for all Project and Production servers to ensure 100% compliance with policy guidelines.
- Manage data replication, media retention policies, and optimize tape utilization without compromising functionality.
- Execute daily offsite tape movements and perform periodic audits of offsite storage locations.
Recovery & Business Continuity
- Prepare and execute a Restoration Calendar, conducting periodic drills for Exchange, Databases, Applications, OS, and SAN environments.
- Analyze and remediate failed backup schedules promptly to minimize data loss risks.
- Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and backup policy work instructions.
Performance & Optimization
- Monitor service availability and performance thresholds to ensure optimal environment health.
- Lead Technology Refresh initiatives within the storage and backup domain to keep infrastructure modern and efficient.
- Provide deep-dive technical analysis for complex storage backend problems.
Technical Requirements
- Storage Hardware: Proven expertise in EMC (Power Max, VMAX, VNX, ECS) and HP 3par.
- Backup Software: Advanced knowledge of EMC Networker, Avamar, Data Domain, and Data Protection Advisor (DPA).
- Networking: Strong experience troubleshooting Brocade Switches and HBA issues on Windows/UNIX.
- Environment: Proficiency in managing storage for diverse workloads (Database, Exchange, File Servers, etc.).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proficiency in Backup strategies for enterprise environment.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., EMC ISA, Specialist, or Expert level; HP 3par certifications) are highly preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced production environment.
