Strategic HR Consultant
Turner Recruiting & Consulting
About the role
About the Opportunity
Turner Recruiting & Consulting is hiring for a Strategic HR Consultant.
One of our clients is searching for someone who can step in as a true advisor to leadership — not just handle HR tasks, but think critically, ask the right questions, and protect the business from risk.
This is a high-impact role where your decisions and recommendations will directly affect business operations, employee relations, and legal exposure.
If you are someone who just “keeps the peace” or avoids hard conversations — this is not the role for you.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Strategic HR Support
- Partner with leadership to provide guidance on HR strategy, structure, and decision-making
- Identify risks before they become problems and provide solutions
- Support business owners in making informed, compliant decisions
Employee Relations & Risk Management
- Handle employee issues, investigations, and conflict resolution
- Guide leadership through disciplinary actions the right way (not reactive decisions)
- Ensure proper documentation and reduce legal exposure
Performance Management
- Assist with performance reviews, coaching, and accountability structures
- Support development and execution of performance improvement plans (PIPs)
- Identify gaps in team performance and recommend solutions
HR Compliance & Infrastructure
- Develop and maintain handbooks, policies, and procedures
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
- Oversee leave of absence processes and employee lifecycle
Organizational Support
- Create and update job descriptions with clear expectations and KPIs
- Conduct salary research and provide compensation guidance
What We’re Looking For
Experience
- 4–6+ years of HR experience
- Experience advising leadership and handling employee relations independently
- Business consulting experience is a strong plus
Core Strengths
- Strong understanding of HR compliance and employment law
- Ability to think critically and not just react
- Strong communication — especially in difficult situations
- Ability to balance strategy with execution
Tech & Efficiency
- Comfortable using technology to stay organized and efficient
- Able to manage multiple priorities without things falling through the cracks
Additional Requirements
- Must be available to work between 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (California time zone)
- Familiarity with California HR laws is a strong plus, but not required
The Right Person for This Role:
- Asks questions before making recommendations
- Thinks through consequences (legal + operational)
- Is confident advising leadership — even when it’s uncomfortable
- Takes ownership and follows through
This Role Is NOT For Someone Who:
- Is a “people pleaser” over a problem solver
- Avoids conflict or difficult conversations
- Needs constant direction
- Makes reactive decisions without full context
Why This Role?
This is an opportunity to step into a role where you are trusted to think, not just execute.
You will be working closely with leadership, helping shape decisions that impact both people and the business — not just processing HR tasks.
