Job Details

The firm is seeking a Structural Engineering Department Manager to lead, develop, and expand its structural engineering practice within a major Midwest operations hub. This role combines technical leadership with people and project management, offering the opportunity to shape department standards, mentor engineering talent, and contribute to the strategic growth of the business. The ideal candidate brings deep structural design expertise, strong leadership capability, and experience supporting industrial-scale projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership for the structural engineering group, including engineers, designers, and drafting staff.
  • Oversee structural design and analysis for a variety of industrial and commercial applications, including steel and concrete structures, foundations, buildings, and equipment support systems.
  • Serve as a technical authority, ensuring quality, accuracy, and consistency across all department deliverables.
  • Partner closely with project management and other engineering disciplines to meet project scope, schedule, and budget objectives.
  • Develop staffing strategies, assign technical resources, and support professional development and mentorship efforts.
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve department standards, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Build trusted client relationships through technical excellence, responsiveness, and clear communication.
  • Support business development activities such as proposal development, technical scoping, and estimating support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required.
  • Prior experience leading or managing structural engineering teams or projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable structural design codes and standards (steel, concrete, and general building codes).
  • Proven experience delivering structural design solutions for industrial or manufacturing facilities.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis and design software commonly used in industrial engineering environments.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to balance technical and managerial responsibilities.
