System Engineer

As part of a complex, security-critical network transformation project, we are looking to engage a System Engineer with extensive network experience, both in hardware and software.

In this role, you will focus on ensuring system quality through structured testing, detailed analysis, and continuous improvement of network and software components as a highly secure network architecture is further developed.

This is a contract assignment, renewing at the end of the year.

Main Responsibilities

• Plan and execute structured testing and quality assurance activities across system components
• Create, maintain, and manage realistic test data and test environments
• Analyze, document, and track defects, ensuring clear traceability and follow-up
• Execute and evaluate test cases and assess system quality based on defined criteria
• Perform root cause analysis, reproduce issues, and document error scenarios in detail
• Collaborate closely with development teams to resolve defects and improve system performance
• Ensure transparency and traceability of testing processes and results
• Manage and maintain test environments, including data, logs, and documentation
• Support the reuse and scalability of testing artifacts and processes

Your Background

• Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a comparable qualification
• Several years of professional experience in system engineering and/or software testing
• Strong programming skills in Python, particularly for test automation, as well as solid experience in C# and/or C++
• In-depth knowledge of networking technologies, including routing, switching, IPv4/IPv6, and overlay/underlay architectures
• Strong Linux expertise as a platform for testing and networking
• Experience working with modern development tools and environments such as CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab, Jenkins), version control systems (Git), automation tools (Ansible), and virtualization technologies
• Fluency in German
• Experience in security-critical environments, complex system architectures, automated testing frameworks, or end-to-end system testing is considered a plus
