Systems Integration Engineer

Stealth Physical AI

On-site Full-time Senior Today

About the role

As a Systems Integration Engineer, you are responsible for the hardware subsystems that enable our robots to perceive and physically interact with their environment. You serve as the technical link between the global hardware ecosystem and our internal developments, ensuring that diverse modules - whether sourced externally or developed in-house - integrate reliably into our mechanical, electrical, and control substacks. By anticipating the downstream effects of hardware and software choices, you ensure that every integrated module contributes to a high-performance system that operates predictably under real-world conditions. Your mission is to accelerate development and deployment by identifying, evaluating, and integrating high-performance hardware subsystems. You will ensure these modules deliver deterministic performance and high-fidelity feedback, while also defining technical requirements for in-house solutions when existing products do not meet our performance, reliability, or scalability needs.

Key responsibilities

  • Integrate diverse electromechanical components into our robotic platforms, developing the necessary mounting interfaces, communication layers, and low-level drivers to ensure reliable operation within the core architecture.
  • Implement the communication and calibration infrastructure needed to deliver high-quality, deterministic behavior. You will ensure all data is precisely synchronized and calibrated to meet the requirements of downstream control stacks.
  • Create benchmarking methodologies and test rigs to evaluate hardware performance in real-world environments, focusing on metrics such as latency, precision, durability, and robustness to environmental conditions.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and global hardware vendors. Systematically test and select components that meet the platform's rigorous performance, reliability, and scalability standards.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for hardware suppliers to manage firmware compatibility and customizations, while translating integration findings into clear technical requirements for future in-house hardware iterations.

Possible areas of specialization

  • Dexterous manipulation: Integrate third-party and in-house manipulation hardware into the platform, ensuring the system can handle tasks ranging from high-precision finger movements to high-force interactions.
  • Multimodal perception: Own the complete sensory loop, combining high-bandwidth vision data with proprioceptive joint, inertial and tactile feedback to provide the robot with the situational awareness and "sense of self" needed for complex interactions.

Your profile

We are looking for engineers who thrive at the intersection of hardware integration, robotics systems engineering, and real-world deployment. You are pragmatic, detail-oriented, and capable of turning complex interdisciplinary concepts into robust, deployable robotic systems.

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in robotics, with a proven track of interdisciplinary development and integration of robotic subsystems.
  • Core Skills: Strong C/C++ and Python programming and scripting skills, with experience in embedded and edge computing devices. Strong experience integrating various sensors (cameras, depth sensors, LiDAR, IMUs, force, torque etc.) along with their calibration. Solid understanding of real-time control requirements, interrupts, and threaded execution. Comfortable with linear algebra, coordinate systems and 3D transformations. Experience with ROS / ROS2 and real-time control pipelines. Experience with using hardware communication protocols and sensor drivers. Rapid-prototyping of mechanical and electrical subsystems, fluent navigation of CAD drawings and assemblies, wiring, soldering, mechanical assembly.
  • Mindset: You are a practical problem-solver who prioritizes reliability, robustness, and system performance. You understand that deployed robots must work consistently, and you approach integration with careful validation, testing, and optimization.
