Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems seeks a proactive System Safety Engineer or Principal System Safety Engineer to join our talented team in Melbourne, Florida. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, transparent, and empowered, focused on team success, continuous learning, and ownership of work products.
Responsibilities
- Apply safety engineering methodologies as outlined in MIL-STD-882 and the Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH).
- Evaluate complex aviation systems and software designs to identify hazards, categorize risks, establish safety requirements, and develop mitigations.
- Independently analyze and recommend safety criteria in system design and procedures to eliminate hazards.
- Work collaboratively with design teams to execute MIL-STD-882E hazard analyses.
- Prepare and review technical documentation related to system safety and Airworthiness Certification as per MIL-HDBK-516.
- Review Test Plans and Procedures to verify safety requirements and assess potential hazards.
- Conduct safety analyses following MIL-STD-882.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- System Safety Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 2 years of professional experience or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline.
- Principal System Safety Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of professional experience, a Master’s degree with 3 years of experience, or a PhD in a STEM discipline with 1 year of experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance and program access as required.
- Experience with military/civil system and software safety processes (MIL-STD-882E, ARP4671) and related assurance processes (DO-178C/DO-254).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with requirements tools like DOORS, Cameo, and Safety and Reliability tools such as PTC Windchill Quality Solutions, Agile software tools, JIRA, FISHEYE, and Confluence.
- Knowledge of military system safety standards like MIL-STD-882 and industry equivalents (DO-178B/C, DO-248, DO-254, ARP-4754, ARP-4761, MIL-HDBK-516C).
- Experience in flight test engineering, software systems integration, and software test engineering.
- Background in system safety and military aviation.
- Experience in hardware/software integration.
Salary Information
Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00
Salary offers will be based on a number of factors including the job responsibilities, candidate experience, and current market conditions. Depending on the role, employees may be eligible for additional compensation, such as overtime, shift differentials, and discretionary bonuses.
