Description

Liquid Robotics, a Boeing Company, designs and manufactures Wave Gliders®, autonomous ocean robots powered by wave and solar energy. These platforms support ocean monitoring and data collection for defense, commercial, and scientific applications, helping organizations better understand and protect marine environments.

This position leads a team of systems engineers developing autonomous maritime robotics systems. The role coordinates cross-disciplinary engineering activities involving electrical, mechanical, software, and operations teams. Responsibilities include systems architecture development, requirements management, testing and verification planning, and continuous improvement of engineering processes supporting the Wave Glider platform and associated payload systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manage systems engineering activities supporting development of autonomous ocean robotic platforms
  • Lead and develop a team of systems engineers with varying levels of experience
  • Translate customer and business requirements into technical system solutions within schedule and budget constraints
  • Define project schedules, budgets, and technical approaches for proposals and internal development initiatives
  • Develop risk assessments and mitigation strategies for engineering projects
  • Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, software, and operations engineers to manage system and subsystem requirements and interfaces
  • Create, modify, decompose, and derive system-level requirements and architecture definitions
  • Define and refine system models and system architecture documentation
  • Prepare and release engineering documentation supporting product development
  • Develop verification and validation test plans and procedures
  • Support test execution and produce test reports validating system performance
  • Conduct trade studies and prototype evaluations to identify optimal engineering solutions
  • Resolve cross-disciplinary engineering issues affecting system performance and integration
  • Guide engineers in systems engineering best practices related to requirements, architecture, design, and testing
  • Define and improve engineering processes, tools, and procedures supporting system development
  • Maintain and oversee adherence to systems engineering processes and standards

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably mechanical, electrical, or computer engineering
  • Ten years of engineering experience including system-level development responsibilities
  • At least five years of cross-disciplinary systems engineering experience
  • Three years of management experience supervising engineering staff
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Broad engineering knowledge applicable to robotics systems in maritime environments
  • Strong technical problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and stakeholders
  • Eligibility as a U.S. Person under export control regulations
  • Ability to obtain a United States Secret Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in engineering or related field
  • Experience working with the Liquid Robotics Wave Glider platform
  • Active United States security clearance at time of hire
