Responsibilities
- Manage and review complex tax engagements, including corporate, fiduciary (complex, grantor, simple, and split-interest), gift, individual, partnership, and private foundation tax returns
- Oversee preparation of tax workpapers, lead sheets, tax projections, and estimated tax payments
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients by analyzing tax positions, identifying planning opportunities, and providing recommendations to minimize tax liabilities
- Perform and review tax research to support planning and compliance initiatives
- Oversee preparation and review of client compliance filings, including:
- 1099 year-end information reporting
- Monthly or quarterly sales tax filings
- Annual business license and personal property tax returns
- Stay current on federal, state, and local tax law developments and assess their impact on clients
- Lead, mentor, and review the work of Tax Accounting Seniors and other team members
- Assist with resource planning, workflow management, and engagement timelines
- Support the general administration of the Tax Department, including process documentation and quality control
- Lead or contribute to special projects, including process improvement, automation initiatives, and internal research efforts
- Promote continuing education and knowledge-sharing within the tax team
- Develop, maintain, and enforce detailed engagement timelines, workplans, and milestones across multiple concurrent clients and filing types
- Proactively identify risks, data gaps, dependency issues, and deadline threats; escalate early and drive resolution independently
- Coordinate cross-functional inputs (tax, accounting, AP, client contacts, and technology) to ensure clean handoffs and complete datasets
- Track engagement status in real time and communicate progress, blockers, and next steps with clarity and confidence
- Enforce documentation/workpaper standards, review checkpoints, and quality controls to support scalability and reusability
- Successfully manage high-pressure, deadline-intensive periods with discipline, resilience, and steady execution
Requirements
- Completed Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
- EA or CPA is a plus (not required upon hire)
- Minimum 10+ years' experience in tax preparation and review
- Excellent knowledge of federal and state tax laws and regulations
- Strong knowledge of Excel, Word and Quick Books
- Demonstrated experience managing or mentoring staff
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with senior management, client administration, portfolio managers and high-net-worth clients
