Tech Lead Electrical Engineer (Embedded Systems / PCB Design / EMC/EMI)
Great Bay Staffing Group
About the role
Location: Smithtown NY
Compensation: $140,000–$155,000 base salary + 8% bonus plan
The Opportunity
Join a growing engineering team building embedded electronic products that support emergency response vehicles and first responders. As a Tech Lead Electrical Engineer, you'll own the design and development of embedded hardware—from concept through production—while leading technical decisions and mentoring a small team of engineers. This is an opportunity to shape multiple greenfield embedded systems products in a company actively integrating wireless networking and advanced electronics into mission-critical vehicle technology.
Why You'll Love This Role
• Lead from the front — own electrical architecture, embedded hardware development, and technical direction.
• Build products that matter — develop systems used in emergency response and field-critical environments.
• High-impact visibility — work across mechanical, software, manufacturing, and product teams to bring products to market.
• Greenfield innovation — contribute to multiple new product initiatives in a growing engineering organization.
• Strong business momentum — join a company performing well, with bonus payouts historically exceeding target.
Your Day-to-Day
• Lead the design and development of embedded electronic systems for products including vehicle lighting, pressure governors, sensors, and control modules.
• Drive hardware development including schematic design, PCB layout, functional testing, and system-level validation.
• Define electrical architectures, select components (microcontrollers, sensors, drivers, wireless modules), and ensure performance, manufacturability, and regulatory compliance.
• Provide day-to-day technical leadership and mentorship to a team of 2–3 engineers.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical engineering, software, manufacturing, and product management teams to deliver reliable, field-ready products.
• Manage engineering priorities, schedules, and resource planning to keep development on track.
• Support product testing, validation, and transition into manufacturing.
• Improve engineering processes, documentation, specifications, and hardware design standards.
• Develop and maintain hardware component specifications, system-level requirements, and functional test plans.
• Champion engineering best practices and continuous improvement across the team.
What We're Looking For
• Strong expertise in microcontroller-based hardware design (ARM processor families preferred).
• Deep understanding of EMC / EMI-compliant electronic design.
• Hands-on experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium.
• Experience leading, mentoring, or guiding engineers in a technical team environment.
• Strong understanding of communication protocols including CAN, I2C, SPI, and UART.
• Experience with embedded wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Cellular, or LoRa is a plus.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
• Experience using lab and test equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and signal generators.
• Hands-on laboratory testing, debugging, and validation experience.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder.
