Technical Director
BM2Solar
About the role
Position Overview
BM2Solar is a forward-thinking innovator in the renewable energy sector. We are currently building a next-generation automated energy trading system, and we are seeking a dynamic, highly technical Technical Director to spearhead its engineering, architecture, and infrastructure.
In this role, you will act as a "player-coach"—leading a small, high-caliber engineering team while maintaining deep, direct ownership of the platform's system resilience, cloud infrastructure, and core system architecture. We need a leader who excels at keeping complex trading systems fast, secure, and resilient, while ensuring our lean team operates at peak efficiency. If you love staying close to cutting-edge technology while enabling a small team to punch well above its weight, this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities
System Architecture & Cloud Infrastructure (Hands-on)
- System Resilience: Take ultimate ownership of the reliability, speed, and security of our proprietary energy trading system, ensuring continuous $24/7$ operational availability.
- Cloud & DevOps Leadership: Directly architect and manage scalable cloud environments (AWS/GCP), containerization (Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) tailored for demanding trading workloads.
- Core System Architecture: Design and optimize scalable system architecture, high-performance execution stacks, and robust data integration workflows capable of handling low-latency transaction systems.
- Technical Roadmap: Guide the evolving tech stack, actively participating in architecture reviews, code quality standards, and hands-on technical problem-solving alongside the team.
Team Leadership & Efficiency Driving
- Lean Team Management: Lead, mentor, and foster a tight-knit, high-output team of developers and engineers.
- Drive High Efficiency: Streamline Agile workflows, automate deployment pipelines, remove technical debt, and implement tooling that allows a small team to build, test, and iterate rapidly.
- Strategic Alignment: Bridge the gap between quantitative trading strategies, system execution, and business goals, interacting effectively with external partners and grid operators.
Profile Requirements
Must-Have Qualifications
- Cloud & DevOps Mastery: Proven, hands-on experience in architectural design using AWS/GCP, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
- System Architecture Depth: Strong background building and scaling low-latency transaction systems and managing large-scale data processing.
- Tech Stack Familiarity: Experience guiding or working within a stack that includes Python, system-level languages like Rust (or similar), as well as both relational and time-series databases.
- Team Leadership: Experience managing small developer teams with a proven knack for optimizing workflows and driving high efficiency.
- Language: Fluent, professional-level English (written and spoken). German is a significant advantage.
Strong Advantages (Nice-to-Have)
- Exchange & API Knowledge: Direct experience or deep understanding of high-throughput exchange integration, connectivity frameworks, and APIs (REST/Websockets, FIX protocol).
- Trading System Experience: Prior experience building or maintaining algorithmic trading systems, fintech platforms, or energy trading infrastructure.
- Languages: Professional proficiency in German is a big plus (highly valuable for local APG grid and stakeholder alignment), but not a show-stopper.
- Energy Market Expertise: Practical background in European electricity markets, balancing mechanisms, and energy trading (Intraday, Day-Ahead, IDA markets), or cooperation with the Austrian Power Grid (APG).
What We Offer
- Impact: Direct ownership of a cutting-edge cloud and trading infrastructure in a fast-growing energy-tech company.
- Purpose: A mission-driven role contributing directly to the green energy transition through smart trading and grid optimization.
- Flexibility: Flexible working hours and hybrid work options within Austria.
- Compensation: Competitive salary package (with willingness to overpay well above the Austrian Collective Agreement/KV based on your specific experience).
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit their CV and a brief overview of their experience building resilient cloud architectures or low-latency systems to info@BM2Solar.com.
