My Girlfriend's Quilt Shoppe

US · On-site Full-time $19 – $23/hr 2d ago

About the role

About Us

My Girlfriend’s Quilt Shoppe is a welcoming, community-centered quilt shop offering fabric, patterns, kits, and classes for makers of all levels. We’re growing our pattern and kit offerings and are looking for a detail-driven Technical / Pattern Writer to create clear, accurate, confidence-building quilting instructions.

What You’ll Do

  • Write, edit, and standardize quilt patterns (cutting charts, step-by-step instructions, pressing notes, assembly, quilting & binding guidance).
  • Turn sample quilts, sketches, and notes into clean, testable, publish-ready patterns.
  • Create and verify multiple sizes when applicable (yardage, cutting, layout changes).
  • Build and maintain fabric requirements, cutting lists, and kit-friendly instructions.
  • Perform precise quilting math (WOF usage, cuts per strip, yardage rounding, cutting efficiency).
  • Proofread for clarity and accuracy (measurements, terminology, step order, consistency).
  • Coordinate with and incorporate feedback from pattern testers; manage revisions and version history.
  • Maintain a consistent house style across patterns and supporting materials.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Pattern layout/design experience in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Publisher, or Canva.
  • Ability to create or refine simple diagrams/illustrations, or collaborate closely with someone who does.
  • Experience writing tutorials, class handouts, sew-alongs, or product instructions.
  • Familiarity with PDF release workflows (digital download + print readiness).

You’re a Great Fit If You…

  • Have strong quilting knowledge (piecing, pressing, accurate ¼" seams, trimming, binding).
  • Love details and catch tiny issues before they become big problems.
  • Write clearly and kindly—your directions make people feel confident.
  • Stay organized across multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Enjoy collaborating with a creative team in a retail + maker environment.

What We Offer

  • Full-time role in a creative, supportive shop culture.
  • Employee discount and first looks at new fabric/pattern releases.
  • Opportunities to help build our in-house patterns and kit lineup.
  • Health, Dental and Vision Insurance
  • Paid Holidays

How to Apply

  • A short note about your quilting + writing experience and why you’re interested.
  • Resume (or brief work history).
  • 1–3 writing samples (quilting patterns preferred; other technical writing accepted).
  • Optional: examples of layout/design work.
