Position Overview

The Technical Project Manager (TPM) is responsible for planning, coordinating, and driving execution across TruAge and the broader NACS Strategic Initiatives portfolio of digital and technology-driven initiatives. This role ensures cross-functional resources, timelines, dependencies and deliverables are managed with clarity and discipline. The TPM provides consistent visibility into project health through structured status reporting, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)/Objectives and Key Results (OKR) tracking against scorecards and project plans, and stakeholder communications, enabling leadership to make informed decisions and maintain momentum on strategic priorities.

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple concurrent technical projects spanning product, engineering, support, operations, security, data, and partner integrations.
  • Develop and maintain project plans that include scope, milestones, workstreams, resources, risks, assumptions, dependencies, and change control.
  • Drive structured project cadence through standups, working sessions, and executive readouts; ensure clear documentation of decisions and next steps.
  • Coordinate internal teams and external partners to ensure appropriate resourcing and realistic sequencing of work.
  • Identify and proactively manage cross-team risks, timeline threats, and resource conflicts; escalate with recommended options and trade-offs.
  • Establish and maintain portfolio-level visibility to ensure alignment with the technical roadmap and business priorities.
  • Partner with leadership to define and track project KPIs and team OKRs where appropriate.
  • Build and maintain dashboards and recurring reporting that clearly communicates progress, blockers, and outcomes to necessary stakeholders.
  • Support intake, prioritization, and planning processes for new initiatives, ensuring requirements and success criteria are clearly defined.
  • Promote continuous improvement by standardizing templates, reporting rhythms, and delivery best practices across Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid models as appropriate.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in technical project management, program management, or delivery roles within a technology-forward organization.
  • Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional initiatives involving software, infrastructure, integrations, or mission-critical systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of project delivery frameworks (Agile/Scrum, Kanban, Waterfall, and hybrid).
  • Experience with common project and collaboration tools (e.g., HubSpot, Jira, Confluence, Asana, Smartsheet, Monday.com, or equivalent).
  • Proven ability to translate technical concepts into clear, concise updates for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with a consistent track record of driving projects to completion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting retail technology, POS-adjacent ecosystems, identity/verification, or high-availability distributed environments.
  • Experience coordinating vendor and partner programs across enterprise or multi-location deployments.
  • Familiarity with operational support rhythms and how incident patterns influence roadmap and delivery planning.

Key Competencies

  • High ownership mindset; structured execution and follow-through.
  • Excellent prioritization skills across competing deadlines, shifting requirements, and multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong communication practices with a focus on clarity, consistency, and stakeholder confidence.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and bringing order to complex, cross-team initiatives.
  • Metrics-oriented approach to project health, outcome measurement, and continuous improvement.

Success in the First 90 Days

  • Complete onboarding and functional understanding across NACS Strategic Initiatives portfolio of supported projects, products and partners (e.g., TruAge, PROSPR, THRIVR, Transportation Energy Institute, Conexxus, NACS Foundation), as well as necessary support flows, the current technical roadmap and digital standards wallet.
  • Establish a clear, shared view of the active project portfolio, including owners, milestones, dependencies, and risk levels.
  • Implement or refine a consistent status/reporting cadence that provides leadership and stakeholders with reliable project visibility.
  • Align with VP, Emerging Tech & Ops on KPI/OKR expectations and ensure measurement and reporting mechanisms are in place.
  • Stabilize intake and prioritization workflows for new initiatives, with clear definitions of scope, success criteria, and resourcing assumptions.
  • Drive measurable progress on 1–2 priority initiatives, demonstrating strong cross-team coordination and predictable execution.

NACS Culture

We hugely value, invest in and are devoted to the constructive culture that we’ve built and work on every day at NACS. Almost everything we do requires broad, multi-department collaboration to ideate and execute creative initiatives that deliver compelling value to our members and our industry. What that requires is a relatively flat organizational structure that empowers teammates at different levels from all departments to constructively engage and support each other. Titles really don’t matter in such an organization. What matters is a culture of constructive behaviors that relishes divergent perspectives to craft well thought-out initiatives and then come together to execute them. NACS Values:

  • Do the right thing
  • Focus long term
  • In their terms
  • Be fiscally responsible
  • Strive for excellence

The NACS Culture is highly collaborative, and we are better when we are together. NACS is a culture that believes in working together from the office.
