About the role
About Wieland
Wieland is a global leader in copper and copper alloy manufacturing, processing, and distribution. We work across a diverse range of industries—power, automotive, ammunition, coinage, construction materials, refrigeration, and electronics—providing comprehensive product and service portfolios. To us, metal is more than material. Our culture is built on core values of safety, ambition, optimism, reliability, ownership, diversity, and respect. We're committed to creating a workplace where our employees' knowledge and abilities drive daily innovation.
The Role
We're hiring a Technical Services Engineer to provide essential technical support to our Wieland Rolled Products Recycling North America customers, as well as our commercial and manufacturing departments. This position, based in East Alton, IL, is fully on-site and focuses on customer satisfaction through detailed product specification reviews, quality improvement initiatives, cost reduction strategies, and troubleshooting for our Mill Products and Cupping organizations.
What You'll Do
You'll develop and establish hypotheses around product issues, identifying root causes and creating corrective action plans during complaint team meetings. A significant part of your work involves reviewing effectiveness and prevention strategies across similar product streams. You'll ensure accurate review of customer specifications for both new and existing items, managing process and item change requests that balance cost optimization with customer expectations and requirements.
Regular communication and technical support will be woven into your standard work. You'll manage regularly scheduled customer meetings—complete with thorough documentation and follow-up action items—to drive continuous improvement. This role includes on-site customer visits as an essential component of building and maintaining strong relationships. You'll also participate in and support internal quality audits, customer audits, and subcontractor improvement efforts, particularly as they relate to claims management.
Yield and cost improvements are critical to supporting our location's business objectives, making this a role where your technical expertise directly impacts our bottom line.
What We're Looking For
A B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering or Material Science is strongly preferred. You'll need a minimum of 5 years of experience in the metals industry, though we'll consider other engineering degrees based on your manufacturing and material science background.
You should be comfortable interfacing with a variety of internal and external stakeholders across complementary functional departments including sales, supply chain, manufacturing, and our customers. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential—you'll need to discuss technical information with both technical and non-technical personnel in a clear, professional manner.
Training or background in problem-solving is required for this position. We're looking for someone who can break down complex issues methodically and develop practical solutions.
Compensation and Benefits
Base Salary Range: $88,000 - $110,000
You may be eligible for a variable compensation plan bonus based on company performance within our fiscal year cycle.
At Wieland, we recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success. Our salary ranges reflect our good faith estimate to pay fairly, and your final offer will be based on factors unique to you—including years of experience, industry knowledge, technical skills, education, and qualifications.
