Role Overview
The Technical Writer applies expertise in writing technical materials and documentation, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established documentation standards and style guides. This position requires technical knowledge and responsibility for specific phases of documentation, including design, creation, and quality checking. The role is on‑site in San Antonio, Texas. U.S. citizenship is required with a Public Trust or the ability to obtain one. (Military veterans encouraged to apply.)
Responsibilities
- Write technical materials, such as equipment manuals, appendices, or operating and maintenance instructions.
- Check documents for spelling, grammar, organization, consistency, and content.
- Assist in layout work as needed.
- Ensure documents follow the appropriate style guide and editing workflow process.
- Leverage and implement Department of Defense (DoD), Federal Information Processing (FIP), Government Printing Office (GPO), or commercial documentation standards as appropriate to the assignment.
- Perform independent thinking and handle difficult tasks.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalency.
- Six (6) years of progressive experience demonstrating the required proficiency.
- Familiarity with standards for documentation formats, editing workflows, and configuration management.
- Ability to work closely with technical editors, technical writers, or authors to ensure repository publication processes are followed.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely.
- Ability to obtain Public Trust security clearance.
- U.S. citizenship (required).
Preferred Qualifications and Core Competencies
- Active Public Trust security clearance.
- Prior experience writing documentation within a federal government or defense environment.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and multitask.
Select applicants will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and be able to obtain a government‑granted security clearance. Individuals may also be subject to a background investigation including, but not limited to, criminal history, employment and education verification, drug testing, and creditworthiness.
