About the role
Position Summary
The Technical Writer is responsible for the development of technical Support Documentation (Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Best Practices, handbooks, etc.) of our organization.
Essential Functions
- Conduct direct conversations and interviews with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
- Travel to operational locations to observe job duties and conduct on‑site discussions with personnel.
- Author early drafts of process documentation and may be required to complete full publishing of those documents.
- Support ongoing process documentation efforts through follow‑ups, hosted workshops, and regularly scheduled engagements with SMEs.
- Support larger organizational Knowledge Management initiatives.
- Perform interviews with SMEs on a variety of topics to document processes, procedures, and policies.
- Use Adobe (FrameMaker, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft (SharePoint, Word, Excel, Teams) software to generate, communicate, and distribute:
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
- Best Practices (BP)
- Company Policies
- Presentations
- Videos
- Flyers
- Coordinate meetings and information sessions with technical teams from:
- Frac Operations
- Power Generation
- Gas Distribution
- Mechanical and Maintenance
- Electrical (E‑Tech and Medium Voltage Technicians)
- Manufacturing and Equipment Testing
- Perform data‑management tasks associated with all resources used to compile and support published documents.
- Travel periodically throughout the Houston Area, West Texas, and North East Evolution facilities.
- Acquire, collect, and adjust photo content for company documents.
- Clearly report status and progress of projects, evaluating limitations for completion and providing solutions.
- Manage and communicate clear expectations to those not directly under your supervision to ensure success of objectives.
- Follow up as required with all resources to accomplish tasks with professionalism and under own initiative.
Qualifications
Position Requirements
- Successfully pass background check, pre‑employment drug screening, and any pre‑employment aptitude and/or competency assessments.
- Possess a standard driver’s license in the continental US.
Education / Experience
- High School GED; Undergraduate degree in STEM preferred.
- A training and safety background is a plus.
Skills, Competencies, and Abilities
- Ability to compile information in a logical and systematic way and communicate with people of varying backgrounds.
- Experience recording operational procedures from technical fields such as:
- Physical rig‑up of heavy‑duty fracturing equipment
- Turbine function, maintenance, and operation
- Electrical and Medium Voltage topics
- Digital communications
- Mechanical / Hydraulic / Electrical / Safety and fracturing concepts
- Gas distribution
- Ability to communicate confidently with individuals across the hierarchy, from new employees to department directors.
- Ability to navigate confusing or challenging discussions until consensus and full understanding are reached.
- Strong time‑management and self‑prioritization skills with little immediate guidance.
- Ability to travel periodically with little notice throughout Texas and the North East (estimated 2 weeks per month to once a quarter).
- Proficiency in photography, including composition and lighting, to reduce post‑production work.
- Experience with photographic equipment.
- Experience with Adobe Software (Photoshop, Illustrator, FrameMaker, etc.).
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, and Teams.
- Experience writing technical procedural content or scholarly‑quality compositions.
- Experience with modern fracturing processes, fracturing equipment, turbines, and gas processing is a plus.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
- Works indoors in an office setting, primarily seated for extended periods at a desk, using repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers.
- Vision requirements include close focus and the ability to adjust focus while reading and viewing a computer monitor.
- Must be able to speak clearly and audibly, and hear/understand speech and other sounds (e.g., building alarms) from in‑person, telephone, or remote sources.
- May be required to stand, kneel, push, pull, reach overhead, stoop, crouch, climb, and lift; must be able to lift 25 lb independently.
- Work hours may include early mornings, late evenings, and weekends, depending on business necessity.
