About the role
About This Project
I am looking for an experienced Technical Writer or Curriculum Developer to finalize a 15-chapter textbook and an accompanying Instructor’s Edition for a specialized CDL Class B school. The book is titled "Dump Truck Masterclass: Class B CDL & Vocational Operator Manual."
I have the complete chapter outline, technical content scripts, structural layout directions, and chapter quizzes already drafted. Your job will be to take this established foundation and polish it into a publishing-ready textbook manuscript.
Responsibilities
- Refine & Expand: Smooth out the technical prose for Chapters 1–15, ensuring it reads professionally while remaining highly accessible to students (target reading level: 5th to 8th grade).
- ELDT Alignment: Ensure the CDL foundation chapters perfectly mirror the FMCSA Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) theory requirements for Class B.
- Dual-Edition Formatting: Organize the text so that it can be split into a Student Workbook and an Annotated Instructor’s Edition (which includes the answer keys, instructor notes, and in-class "pop-up tests" we have mapped out).
- Photo Placement Placeholders: Insert clear placeholders throughout the text telling our graphic designer exactly where to insert high-resolution photos of the truck components (e.g., [INSERT PHOTO 3.2: Slack Adjuster and Pushrod]).
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience writing technical training manuals, educational workbooks, or vocational curriculum.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, automotive/trucking industries, or safety regulations (knowledge of CDL or FMCSA guidelines is a massive plus).
- Ability to deliver clean, highly organized Microsoft Word or Google Docs files using consistent heading styles.
