Technical Writer
Qualcomm
About the role
Why Join QITC?
Join Qualcomm's Interconnect Technology Center (QITC) and become a key technical communicator helping shape how cutting‑edge Network‑on‑Chip (NoC) technologies are understood and adopted by thousands of SoC engineers worldwide.
This Role Offers
- Deep exposure to advanced hardware and system architectures
- High autonomy and editorial ownership
- Long‑term technical growth in a world‑class R&D environment
- A mission‑driven documentation role focused on engineering impact rather than marketing
Role Description
This position is ideal for a bilingual French-English technical writer with 2-5 years of experience in microelectronics or closely related high‑technology fields, such as telecommunications, AI/ML, robotics, or advanced computing.
You will join a small, highly technical Technical Writing Team (TWT) within QITC and contribute to end‑user documentation for state‑of‑the‑art NoC technologies. Your work will directly support the deployment of innovations that will reach the public in the coming years.
In addition to authoring technical documentation, you will contribute to the broader documentation ecosystem by:
- Defining and enforcing terminology, naming conventions, and style guidelines
- Proposing and improving document templates and editorial standards
- Participating in the definition of content‑ and information‑management workflows
Content is authored within a strongly typed editorial workflow, producing English‑language text and visual material directly in a relational, object‑oriented authoring database. Publications are delivered periodically to a large internal audience of Qualcomm hardware and software designers, architects, and verification engineers.
Technical Environment and Growth
QITC operates in a highly demanding, engineering‑driven R&D context. As a result, you will progressively acquire deep technical expertise and develop the ability to engage with engineers on equal footing.
You Will
- Build sufficient technical mastery to author documentation autonomously
- Translate complex architectures and specifications into clear, precise documentation
- Communicate effectively with multiple audiences, from system architects to design and verification engineers
Over time, this position enables you to become a technical communication subject‑matter expert across QITC technologies. In return, you will face continuous and stimulating intellectual challenges.
Information Gathering & Editorial Work
A core part of the role is technical information analysis and synthesis. You will extract and validate information from diverse sources, including:
- Specifications, design documents, and presentation material
- Source code and configuration files
- Recorded presentations and internal knowledge bases
- Customer‑support and issue‑tracking systems
Information is obtained through document analysis, meeting participation (often conducted in French), and one‑on‑one interviews with engineering Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). Sources may be formal or informal, incomplete, evolving, or distributed across heterogeneous systems. The ability to evaluate source reliability, structure information, and restitute it clearly, consistently, concisely, and comprehensively is essential.
Personal Qualities
To Succeed In This Role, You Should Demonstrate
- Strong technical curiosity and analytical thinking
- Flexibility and responsiveness in a fast‑moving R&D environment
- Persistence, rigor, and close attention to detail
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills
This Role Is a Strong Fit If You
- Enjoy understanding how complex systems work-and explaining them clearly
- Like turning messy or incomplete information into structured knowledge
- Are comfortable interacting daily with engineers
- Are seeking a long‑term technical role rather than a marketing‑oriented writing position
Required Skills
- Strong technical mindset and pronounced curiosity about technology
- Ability to autonomously analyze and synthesize information from diverse sources (source code, presentations, tickets, specifications, emails)
- Foundational knowledge in mathematics, computing, and electronics, including:
- Boolean algebra
- Simple equations and mathematical reasoning
- General scientific literacy
- Familiarity with DITA‑based workflows
- Experience with single‑source and database‑driven authoring; familiarity with object‑oriented authoring tools, such as Author‑it, is a plus
- Experience defining terminology, naming conventions, and style guides
- Experience with source‑control and content‑management systems, such as SVN, GitHub, and Bugzilla
- Proficiency with Windows and Linux environments
- Proficiency with office productivity tools and text‑based editors/search tools
- Sensitivity to UX and UI consistency
- Basic competence in graphic communication
Bonus Skills
- Familiarity with the Python language and ability to navigate complex codebases
- Interest in AI and LLM‑based tooling, including terminology and content structuring for AI‑assisted documentation
- Experience with documentation automation, scripting, or workflow optimization. Knowledge in VBS is a plus
- Basic experience with CorelDRAW for technical diagram creation
- Experience with the enterprise collaboration tools Confluence and SharePoint
- Proficiency with advanced regular‑expression tools
- Understanding of UX principles and UI text maintenance
This Role Requires
- Excellent written English
- Very high proficiency in spoken French (native or bilingual). This is essential, as technical meetings and interviews.
