Technical Writer

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer with a strong engineering background in heavy equipment to develop clear, accurate, and detailed technical documentation. This role is critical in translating complex mechanical systems and operational processes into user-friendly manuals, procedures, and guides.

This is not a typical writing role—success in this position requires hands-on engineering experience, deep technical understanding, and the ability to communicate complex concepts in a structured, step-by-step format.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, write, and maintain technical documentation including:
  • Assembly manuals
  • Operating procedures
  • Service and maintenance manuals
  • Troubleshooting guides
  • Safety and operational documentation (including slope operation and field use)
• Translate engineering concepts, drawings, and specifications into clear, concise instructions
• Create detailed, step-by-step procedures for mechanical systems and equipment operation
• Collaborate closely with engineering, production, and service teams to gather accurate information
• Review and validate documentation through hands-on testing and field observation when required
• Ensure all documentation meets internal standards, regulatory requirements, and safety guidelines
• Continuously update documentation based on product changes, field feedback, and improvements
• Support training initiatives by developing instructional materials

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Minimum 5–10+ years of experience working with heavy equipment or industrial machinery
• Proven experience in technical writing, specifically:
  • Equipment manuals
  • Assembly procedures
  • Service documentation
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand complex systems in detail
• Experience working in manufacturing, forestry, construction, or similar industries is preferred

Assets

• Experience with SolidWorks, CAD drawings and interpreting technical schematics
• Familiarity with documentation tools and content management systems
• Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory requirements related to heavy equipment
• Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset
