About The Opportunity
Our Public Sector client is seeking a Technical Writer (Level 2) to support documentation activities within the Defence Resource Management Information System (DRMIS) environment.
This role will support a complex SAP-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system used to manage financial, materiel, maintenance, and workforce functions. The successful candidate will work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), functional teams, and business users to produce and maintain high-quality documentation supporting land equipment maintenance operations.
The DRMIS environment supports a large and distributed user base and plays a critical role in operational readiness across Canada and internationally.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Determine documentation needs (e.g., due to new equipment, DRMIS/LEMS changes, or process updates), review existing documents for currency and gaps, and plan updates in line with priorities
- Author and maintain DGLEPM-specific documentation (DRMIS/LEMS PM & MM) consistent with current system versions
- Rewrite and professionally format SME-provided process and procedure documents to align with standards and business transformation requirements
- Develop job aids (e.g., quick reference guides, checklists, annotated screenshots, and workflow aids) to support business processes
- Liaise with stakeholders to clarify and address policy questions affecting documentation
- Ensure all documentation complies with applicable policies and standards
- Produce aide-mémoire, operational job aids, and procedures used for training and daily operations
- Identify target audience and prepare purpose and scope statements for each document
- Create structured documentation including tables of contents and standardized formatting
- Verify accuracy by cross-checking source materials and SME inputs and resolve discrepancies
- Prepare and coordinate illustrations, diagrams, and layouts to ensure clarity and usability
- Use word-processing, desktop publishing, and graphics tools to produce final, publish-ready documentation
About You
The successful candidate will have the following:
Mandatory Requirements:
- Minimum of 60 months of combined experience (within the last 120 months) creating and maintaining:
- Technical documentation
- Procedures
- Job aids and/or training materials
- Minimum of 48 months of experience (within the last 120 months) as a Technical Writer in an IM/IT environment
- Experience writing documentation supporting business and/or technical processes
- Experience working with SMEs to gather, validate, and document requirements and procedures
- Strong ability to produce clear, structured, and user-focused documentation
Assets may include:
- Experience writing procedures for ERP systems (e.g., SAP or DRMIS)
- Experience supporting SAP modules such as:
- Plant Maintenance (PM)
- Material Management (MM)
- Workforce Management (WFM)
- Defence Force and Public Security (DFPS)
- Experience in Government of Canada or defence environments
- Experience developing training materials and job aids for operational users
- Experience working in complex, highly integrated systems environments
About the Job
- Contract duration: 2 years, with possible 6 months extension
- Hybrid (on-site required up to 3 days per week in the National Capital Region)
