About the role
About Us
We are seeking a Technical Writer who thrives in a hands-on manufacturing environment and is interested in learning how complex, heavy equipment is built, operated, and serviced.
This position is ideal for someone who has experience creating technical documentation – or is early in their career and looking to build those skills – while working closely with engineers, technicians, and production teams on the shop floor.
We’re looking for a candidate who is curious, detail-oriented, and motivated to develop their understanding of mechanical systems and translate that knowledge into clear, accurate documentation.
Responsibilities
- Update, revise, and maintain existing technical documents, including operator manuals, service and maintenance guides, parts manuals, and installation instructions
- Work with engineering, service and manufacturing teams to gather and validate technical content
- Review equipment designs and existing documentation to support accuracy and updates
- Support documentation updates in response to Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
- Use CAD software (2D/3D) to edit existing drawings and create basic illustrations and exploded views (training provided as needed)
- Help maintain document accuracy, version control, and alignment with our ERP system (NetSuite)
- Continuously improve documentation clarity, usability, and consistency with guidance from the team
Qualifications
- Associate degree, technical diploma, or certification in Technical Writing, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field; or equivalent experience
- 1-3 years of technical writing or related experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or technical environment
- Experience creating technical documentation for physical products or equipment is a plus
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, or specifications is preferred
- Mechanical aptitude or interest in understanding how equipment and systems work
- Familiarity with technical authoring tools (e.g., Adobe FrameMaker) is a plus
- Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar) for basic edits and illustrations is helpful; willingness to learn is expected
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and commitment to accuracy
