About Highland Valley Copper

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.

Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

Reporting to the Senior Coordinator, Operational Readiness, the Technical Writer will play a critical role in supporting the Mine Life Extension (MLE) Project by developing high-quality, operator-focused documentation for new equipment, systems, and facility modifications.

This role is responsible for producing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), circuit manuals, training materials, and isolation procedures to ensure operational readiness ahead of mechanical completion. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams including Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Process Control, and Leadership & Development.

This is a 12-month position with the potential for extension.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain SOPs, circuit manuals, training materials, and operational procedures for new and modified facilities
  • Create operator-friendly process documentation, including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), aligned with HVC standards
  • Produce and update multi-point isolation (LOTO) procedures for new and existing systems
  • Support documentation for major processing areas including grinding, flotation, water, tailings, and conveying systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Process Control, and L&D) to gather inputs and validate documentation
  • Ensure all documentation follows HVC standards and is completed ahead of Mechanical Completion timelines
  • Facilitate document review and approval processes with Operations and stakeholders
  • Conduct site engagement including SME interviews, walkthroughs, and field validation
  • Utilize technical drawings and documentation (P&IDs, PFDs, vendor data) to develop accurate content
  • Promote Teck’s core values, including Courageous Safety Leadership and continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in heavy industry (mining preferred)
  • 2+ years of experience working within an operating mineral processing plant
  • Proven experience developing technical documentation for plant operations
  • Strong ability to interpret:
    • Process descriptions
    • P&IDs and control systems documentation
    • Vendor technical specifications
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with operations teams and translate complex information into user-friendly documentation
  • Excellent written communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Visio

Assets

  • Experience with grinding, flotation, tailings, water systems, and conveying equipment
  • Experience developing procedures in collaboration with Operations teams
  • Familiarity with:
    • Hazard-based risk assessments
    • Isolation/LOTO documentation
  • Experience with Navisworks or Smart Review (3D model review tools)

Pay Range

CAD $107,000 - $132,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
