About the role

Position Overview

GovCIO is currently hiring for a Technical Writer & Visual Communications specialist to support the Digital Health Office, translating complex technical concepts into clear, compelling written and visual content. This role blends traditional technical writing with strategic communications, storytelling, and graphic design to support both internal and external audiences. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who can partner with engineers, product managers, and leadership to create documentation, presentations, infographics, and other visual assets that improve understanding, adoption, and engagement. Location: US-Remote.

Compensation: USD $120,000.00 - USD $130,000.00 /Yr.

Key Responsibilities

  • Writes, rewrites, and/or edits technical documents related to the software development lifecycle, prepares illustrative materials, interviews stakeholders, and conducts quality reviews.
  • Translates complex data into user-friendly text for print and electronic publications.
  • Gathers information through research, statistical reports, and interviews with technical staff.
  • Develops cataloging systems and maintains records, files, electronic media, and archiving processes.
  • Assists in preparing material for technical seminars, business forums, and presentations as required.
  • Selects or recommends layouts, graphics, drawings, tables, exhibits, illustrations, charts, or storyboards to enhance publication objectives.
  • Develops clear and concise communications for diverse audiences, including internal communications (program updates, executive briefings, change management).
  • Designs and produces visual assets such as infographics, diagrams, slide decks, and one-pagers, ensuring visual consistency with brand and accessibility standards.
  • Partners with subject matter experts to gather requirements, validate content, and continuously improve documentation based on feedback.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience (or commensurate experience).
  • Clearance Required: Public Trust.
  • Experience supporting technology, software, or IT programs.
  • Familiarity with UX writing or content design principles.
  • Experience in consulting, enterprise, or government environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with documentation tools (e.g., Confluence, SharePoint, Markdown, Word).
  • Proficiency with design and presentation tools (e.g., PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Canva, Lucidchart, Miro).
  • Strong storytelling, layout, and visual hierarchy skills.
  • Knowledge of accessibility and plain-language standards.
