Technical Writer/Configuration Manager

Overview

Bowhead seeks a Technical Writer/Configuration Manager to join our team supporting NIWC Atlantic. The Technical Writer/Configuration Manager will work directly with the project team, team lead and the client completing technical writing and editing, managing and maintaining a collection of documents, and provide meeting support. The ideal candidate will have strong personal skills, organizational skills and be able to operate independently within the team. The candidate should also be able to support project presentations, the development and delivery of presentation material and be comfortable in briefing settings.

This position is 100% onsite. No hybrid/flex or remote work schedules are permitted for this effort.

Responsibilities

• Develop, write, and edit technical documentation, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and adherence to proper grammar and formatting standards.
• Execute configuration management (CM) of documentation and prototype systems using established, approved guidelines.
• Manage and maintain document repositories, acting as a librarian to collect, classify, and facilitate access to government publications and project artifacts.
• Facilitate configuration management and technical project meetings, including scheduling, preparing minutes, and tracking action items.
• Apply project management concepts and processes to align documentation and CM efforts with program milestones.
• Create technical briefings and presentation materials for stakeholders.
• Manage configuration identification, control, status accounting, and verification processes for assigned projects.
• Ensure configuration control is consistently applied to engineering changes throughout the project lifecycle.
• Coordinate cross-functionally with all teams to manage product baselines and documentation updates.
• Participate in and conduct configuration audits to verify compliance to requirements and help resolve discrepancies.
• Provide guidance on CM and technical writing best practices to project teams.
• Maintain configuration management databases and tools, ensuring the integrity and security of configuration data.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Information Systems, or a related field of study.
• 4 to 7 years of professional experience in technical writing (editing, formatting) and executing configuration management processes.
• Proficiency in managing documentation within SharePoint and other CM databases/tools.
• Experience supporting and facilitating technical meetings or Configuration Control Boards (CCBs), including tracking complex action items.
• Experience in project management support, ensuring established goals, requirements, and objectives are met.
• Proven experience proactively collaborating with subject matter experts (SMEs) and engineers to accurately document complex technical processes (replacing passive shadowing).
• Experience supporting technical Navy or Marine Corps programs is highly preferred.
• Strong proficiency in Adobe Acrobat and the Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel); working knowledge of MS Project.
• Strong interpersonal skills, good judgment, and the ability to work independently or as part of a collaborative team with moderate supervision.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with peers, SMEs, customers, and leadership.

Security Clearance Requirements

• Must currently hold a security clearance at the at the Secret level.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to lift, move, and position equipment in both indoor and outdoor environments, including on uneven or natural surfaces.
• Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Must be able to lean, crouch, twist, bend, and squat as needed to inspect or analyze network infrastructure.
• Must be able to work outdoors in deployed environments and perform duties in adverse weather conditions, including cold, rain, snow, and heat.
