About the Role

Intertek’s Building & Construction division is seeking a Test Engineer to join the materials test lab in York, PA. The role involves performing tests on a variety of building products and components, managing test projects, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Shift / Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm
Travel: Up to 15 % of the time (business needs)

Responsibilities

  • Follow and enforce all safety requirements and company policies
  • Provide exceptional customer service
  • Take full responsibility for assigned projects
  • Work on major testing and research projects, applying new test methods
  • Manage all assigned jobs through Oasis (proposals, job progress, notifications, invoicing, documentation of test data, reporting, job closure)
  • Review and understand contract requirements; obtain authorization for and document any deviations
  • Coordinate test schedule with equipment schedule and other department testing
  • Track and condition test specimens
  • Set up/mount and perform standard and advanced/specialty tests on building products per specifications and procedures
  • Check calibration status of test equipment prior to testing
  • Analyze test results and write accurate, concise test reports summarizing procedures and results
  • Communicate with clients regarding test preparation, procedures, and results
  • Assist department admin in invoicing for all assigned projects
  • Serve as backup to Technician Team Leaders in their absence
  • Remove specimens and discard or store samples
  • Maintain tools and equipment; inventory supplies; keep work area clean
  • Perform computer modeling of test fixtures
  • Assist in training Technicians
  • Assist in development of standardized test procedures
  • Perform other work as required

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • 5 years of relevant experience
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, crouch, bend, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, push, pull, etc., as required
  • General construction/carpentry knowledge and experience using power tools
  • Technical competence to understand and communicate test procedures, specifications, and results; mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and AutoCAD

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications

  • Ability to travel up to 15 % as business needs dictate
  • Familiarity with applicable test standards, procedures, and specifications (e.g., AAMA, ASTM, NFPA, etc.) and relevant industry organizations and code bodies
  • Physical ability to routinely lift at least 50 pounds
