The diverse components of the intelligent metering system – Smart Meter Gateway, base meter, control box, and modem – are all continuously being further developed by our suppliers. Their complex interfaces constantly present us with new challenges. As a Test Engineer Smart Meter Gateways (m/f/d), you will actively shape our qualification process and, as part of the Telecommunication Technology team, make a significant contribution to the quality and availability of the device software. Responsibilities

An assignment that challenges:

• Test execution & quality assurance: You plan, execute, and document software, system, and end-to-end tests, including regression, integration, and, prospectively, automated tests.
• System landscapes check: You test the interaction of Smart Meter Gateway, meters, control boxes, and backend systems, ensuring stable interaction of complex smart meter infrastructures.
• Test design & standards: You develop test cases, scenarios, and plans based on technical requirements and energy industry specifications and contribute to the further development of our quality and test strategies.
• Communication & interface analysis: You check protocols and data paths (LMN, HAN, WAN) as well as interfaces and formats like XML and evaluate their quality, stability, and conformity.
• Error analysis & bug tracking: You identify, analyze, and reproduce software and communication errors and systematically track them through bug tracking to the final solution.
• Results transfer & further development: You work closely with development, product owners, and business units and actively contribute test results to product optimization.

Qualifications

A background that convinces:

• Degree: You have a completed degree or vocational training in computer science, electrical/communications engineering, communication technology, or a comparable qualification.
• Testing experience: You have experience in software testing or quality assurance, ideally in technical or system-related environments. Experience in test automation (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright) and programming skills (e.g., Python, Java, C++) are desirable.
• Tools & methods: You are familiar with test methods and tools such as Jira or TestRail and work in a structured, traceable, and quality-conscious manner.
• System understanding: You have a good technical understanding of complex system landscapes, ideally already in the area of smart meter infrastructures.
• Protocols & standards: Knowledge of communication protocols (LMN/HAN/WAN), XML, and initial exposure to COSEM/OBIS, LwM2M, or APN configuration are a plus.
• Basic knowledge of IT security, certificates, and PKI is a plus.
• Collaboration and communication: You enjoy working in a team, actively contribute, and possess target-group-oriented communication skills and very good German language skills.
