A client of Insight Global is seeking a Tooling Designer to sit fully onsite in Middle River, MD.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with process engineering, quality, and operations teams to define design requirements and develop production methods and tooling concepts.
- Design a wide range of tooling used for composite bonding, trimming, assembly, inspection, and transport.
- Create and maintain detailed 3D models and 2D drawings in CATIA V5 that fully document geometry, materials, and specifications.
- Support internal teams and external vendors throughout tooling fabrication, design reviews, and final acceptance, ensuring all tools meet engineering standards and industry best practices.
- Participate in new product design reviews, applying DFM/DFA principles and providing technical insight.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience/training.
- Preferably 5+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing or product design.
- Experience with composite material processes strongly preferred.
- Experience designing a wide range of tooling to support composite bonding, trimming, assembly, inspection, and transport.
- Experience creating and maintain detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CATIA V5, fully documenting tool geometry, materials, and requirements.
- Must have experience surfacing in CATIA.
- Possibly open to Creo or NX.
- Strong design capability.
- Advanced CATIA V5 proficiency.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations, tolerance stack‑ups, GD&T definition, and material selection.
- Added value from experience in composite manufacturing processes such as layup, bagging, and trimming.
