The opportunity

The Unit Manager High Care will be responsible for overseeing the clinical and operational management of the high care unit. This role requires a strong leader who can ensure high standards of patient care, manage resources effectively and drive quality improvement initiatives within a structured clinical environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure delivery of safe, cost-effective and high-quality patient care in line with clinical governance standards
  • Manage unit resources, including staffing, acuity levels and skill mix
  • Oversee departmental financial performance, including budgeting, billing and stock management
  • Identify and implement quality improvement initiatives and monitor clinical outcomes
  • Manage clinical risks, investigate incidents and ensure compliance with policies and legislation
  • Ensure equipment maintenance, safety standards and asset control
  • Lead and manage nursing staff, including performance management, mentoring and development
  • Promote a positive working environment and support staff wellbeing
  • Facilitate effective communication with patients, families and healthcare professionals
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships within the hospital environment
  • Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control standards
  • Support transformation initiatives and organisational goals

Requirements:

  • Relevant nursing qualification Diploma in General Nursing or BCur Degree or equivalent NQF 7
  • Registered Nurse with valid SANC registration
  • Post basic qualification in Critical Care
  • Qualification in Health Services Management a MUST
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience post speciality qualification
  • Proven leadership and people management experience
  • Strong financial and operational management skills
  • Knowledge of clinical governance, risk management and quality improvement processes
