Summary

The Space Development group delivers innovative technology solutions that help ensure our Nation achieves and maintains space superiority in a multi domain conflict. We are seeking a Software Engineer Team Lead to drive the development of high fidelity, real time visualization and simulation applications using Unreal Engine. This role directly supports force structure planning, Digital Test and Training - Synthetic Environment initiatives, Joint Combatant Command analysis and operations support, Space Force testing and training, and R&D efforts for future space systems. As the team lead, you will guide Unreal developers, set technical direction, manage workflow, mentor junior engineers, and work closely with program leadership under the Space Protection and Response Solution (SPRS) program. Final interview contingent on a technical coding assessment.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and mentor a team of Unreal Software Developers, conduct code reviews, and ensure high-quality work
  • Define technical architecture and best practices for Unreal Engine projects
  • Collaborate through Confluence, Discourse, GitLab, and Jira
  • Partner with government leadership to maintain program alignment and capture customer requirements
  • Provide regular status updates and present progress to leadership and customers
  • Drive development of Unreal Engine-based visualization, simulation, and digital twin applications
  • Contribute to team roadmap, vision, and technical direction
  • Design, develop, document, test, and debug real-time 3D applications in Unreal Engine

What You Must Have

  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of team lead or technical lead experience
  • Proficiency in C++ and Unreal Engine (UE5)
  • Successful completion of a technical C++ coding challenge
  • Strong understanding of compiling, linking, and debugging C++ applications within the Unreal Engine build system
  • Experience developing real time 3D visualization, simulation, or interactive training applications in Unreal Engine
  • Basic space knowledge (e.g., coordinate systems, time, orbital propagation) and experience integrating external data sources into Unreal Engine
  • Strong problem solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to excel in a fast paced, agile environment
  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with Unreal Engine Blueprints, materials, Niagara particle systems, and level design
  • Experience with multiplayer networking, dedicated servers, or distributed simulation in Unreal Engine
  • Knowledge of space domain awareness and space combat power concepts
  • Background in math, physics, or computer graphics
  • Experience in performance profiling and optimization in Unreal Engine
  • Experience leading Agile development teams within a DoD or government environment
  • Active DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance
