Introduction
International Design Studio | Large-Scale Masterplanning Projects
Our client, a forward-thinking and globally active design studio, is looking to appoint Urban Designers (Junior and Senior level) to join their teams in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the planning and design of large-scale, high-impact developments, particularly within hospitality, public realm, and environmentally driven projects. The studio operates across multiple international locations and is known for delivering work that integrates design vision with long-term spatial and environmental performance.
About the Role
These roles are suited to Urban Designers who are passionate about masterplanning and strategic spatial frameworks, and who are comfortable working across both conceptual design and detailed structuring of large, complex sites.
You will be involved in shaping projects from early-stage visioning through to coordinated, buildable frameworks, working closely with multidisciplinary teams including architects, landscape architects, and specialist consultants.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to masterplanning and urban design strategies across large-scale developments
- Develop conceptual frameworks and spatial planning solutions
- Support or lead (depending on seniority) project delivery from concept through to detailed design stages
- Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams on complex, international projects
- Prepare high-quality graphics, presentations, and technical documentation
- Assist with or lead client engagement and design presentations
Core Requirements
- Master’s degree in Urban Design, Architecture, or Landscape Architecture
- Minimum 2+ years’ experience (Junior) / 5+ years (Senior)
- Experience working on large-scale, complex, multidisciplinary projects
- Strong design thinking, graphic, and presentation skills
- Solid technical understanding and ability to contribute to detailed design packages
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite
- Revit advantageous
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Confident communication with clients and consultant teams
- High attention to detail with the ability to self-manage and review work
- Willingness to travel and contribute to international projects
Advantageous
- Interest in hospitality-driven developments and placemaking
- Understanding of environmental systems, landform, and sustainable urban design principles
- Exposure to ecological or landscape-led planning approaches
Global Project Exposure
You will work on projects across South Africa, Tanzania, Ghana, Saudi Arabia, India, Nepal, Portugal (Azores), Costa Rica, the Caribbean, and Mexico, gaining valuable international experience.
