Mechanical Engineer

An engineering firm in Upington, Northern Cape is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to provide technical expertise on design and construction projects. You will prepare calculations and simulations, produce detailed designs and specifications, review contractor submissions, and conduct site inspections. Professional registration or active progress towards it is expected.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all engineering work complies with relevant standards, codes of practice, health and safety regulations, and environmental legislation.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to verify construction or installation work complies with designs and quality specifications.
• Prepare and review engineering drawings, bills of quantities, technical reports, and contract documentation to high accuracy.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure project requirements are clearly communicated.
• Conduct technical analyses including stress analysis, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and structural integrity using industry-standard software.
• Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance programmes for industrial plant and equipment to maximise reliability.
• Develop detailed engineering designs, calculations, simulations, and technical specifications for civil, mechanical, electrical, or process systems.

Requirements

• A minimum of five to eight years of postgraduate engineering experience with demonstrable project achievements in the relevant sector.
• Strong project management skills including scheduling, cost estimation, and contract administration.
• Strong understanding of engineering standards, codes of practice, and regulatory requirements applicable in South Africa.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and coordinating across engineering disciplines for integrated project outcomes.
• A bachelor's degree in engineering in the relevant discipline from a university accredited by the Engineering Council of South Africa.
• Proficiency in engineering design and analysis software relevant to the discipline such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ANSYS, or MATLAB.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills to produce clear technical reports and present to varied audiences.
