(USA) Principal, Software Engineer- Agent Builder

Walmart

About the role

Position Summary

Walmart is transforming the way we solve business problems and launching Walmart’s first “biz/tech” role. We're enabling a future where a single person can own, design, and deploy powerful AI‑driven agents that get work done—without needing a team or technical background. We are looking for Agent Builders—problem solvers who are passionate about speed, simplification, and impact. As an Agent Builder, you'll leverage our self‑service agent building tools—featuring low‑code/no‑code interfaces and natural language chat interfaces—to design and deploy agents that automate complex workflows across Walmart. You’ll be solving big problems end‑to‑end, enabling rapid iteration, and making processes dramatically more efficient. The role is ideal for self‑starters who think holistically, simplify fearlessly, and execute with urgency.

Job location: Bentonville, AR

What You’ll Do

  • Use a low‑code/no‑code agent‑building platform to build and deploy software agents that solve complex business problems.
  • Translate business challenges into agent‑driven automation by chaining together APIs, triggers, LLM functions, and data workflows.
  • Rapidly iterate on agent design using natural language interfaces and workflow visualizers.
  • Own solutions from start to finish—no handoffs, no dependencies—just results.
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams to understand upstream and downstream implications of automation.
  • Continuously improve agent performance by monitoring execution and applying first‑principles thinking to optimize or re‑architect as needed.
  • Be a champion of change—challenge legacy thinking, push boundaries, and drive action.
  • Act as a force multiplier by enabling other business stakeholders to think in terms of agents and automation.
  • Your success will be measured by sales growth, cost savings, and time savings, not the number of agents you build.

Who You Are

  • A generalist who loves solving problems end‑to‑end.
  • Biased for action—you build before you book meetings.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and energized by new challenges.
  • Obsessed with speed, simplification, and tangible outcomes.
  • Not afraid to ask “why,” challenge orthodoxy, or break the mold.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a business, operations, product, strategy, or generalist role with proven track record of results.
  • Familiarity with basic technical concepts (APIs, microservices, LLMs, triggers, webhooks, etc.).
  • Strong analytical skills with a systems‑thinking mindset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to think independently and simplify complex problems using first principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AI/LLM applications, prompt engineering, or automation tools.
  • Understanding of retail, ecommerce, supply chain, merchandising, or logistics operations.
  • Prior experience in a fast‑moving, high‑growth environment.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay plus performance‑based bonus awards.
  • Health benefits: medical, vision, and dental coverage.
  • Financial benefits: 401(k), stock purchase, company‑paid life insurance.
  • Paid time off (PTO) including sick leave, parental leave, family care leave, bereavement, jury duty, and voting.
  • Short‑term and long‑term disability, company discounts, Military Leave Pay, adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, and more.
  • PTO/PPTO can be used for vacation, sick leave, holidays, or other purposes; amount depends on job classification and length of employment and meets or exceeds applicable paid sick‑leave laws.
  • Live Better U: Walmart‑paid education benefit program for full‑time and part‑time associates (high school completion to bachelor's degrees, English Language Learning, short‑form certificates). Tuition, books, and fees are fully paid by Walmart.

Eligibility requirements may apply to some benefits and depend on job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to specific plan or program terms.
