Department: UI/UX Design Reports To: Team Lead Location: Cape Town, South Africa Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 days per week in office Employment Type: Permanent / Full-Time Experience: Minimum 3 years of active UI/UX design and user research experience Role Summary The UX Designer is responsible for applying user experience research methods and design practices to solve product usability challenges and improve overall user experience. This role involves conducting user research, analysing user behaviour and feedback, and designing intuitive user interfaces using Figma . While this is an individual contributor role , designers collaborate closely with product, engineering, and other designers across projects. The role includes working on joint design assignments, facilitating effective design-to-development handovers, conducting UI/UX audits, and occasionally partnering with QA and testing teams to ensure that user experience expectations and accessibility standards are met. The ideal candidate is self-disciplined and proactive , able to manage their own workload effectively while maintaining alignment with project goals, deadlines, and quality standards. Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential to ensure successful delivery of user-centred design solutions. Requirements Minimum 3 years of active experience in a UX/UI research and design role Preferred: Diploma in UX Design Minimum: Short-course certification in UX Design or equivalent training Experience using Figma design systems to create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes A portfolio demonstrating real design work on past projects (AI-generated or “vibe-coded” portfolio entries will not be considered) Flexibility to occasionally work outside SAST hours to accommodate international stakeholders Key Responsibilities User Experience (UX) Research & Design Conduct thorough user experience research based on client and project briefing sessions, following industry-standard research practices Design user navigation structures and sitemap wireframes based on Technical and Product Requirements documentation Translate research insights into clear and intuitive user flows and interaction models User Interface (UI) Research & Design Conduct interface design research to address design challenges not covered in the internal design system Design user interfaces using Figma , aligned with the organisation’s official and standardised internal design system Apply insights from research, analysis, and feedback from product teams and stakeholders to improve design solutions Design System & Team Contributions Participate in the design and ongoing maintenance of the organisation’s proprietary design system , including: Accessibility compliance and certification standards Security considerations within design processes Design system research, documentation, and ongoing maintenance Documentation design and structure UX and UI design audits across products and platforms AI-Assisted Design Practices Use AI-powered tools to support research, design analysis, and productivity Utilise tools such as Claude for research and interactive analysis of design files through MCP server integration Leverage Figma’s integrated AI features to improve design workflows by: Implementing planning templates Generating design assets where appropriate Apply effective AI prompting techniques to maximise efficiency and improve design outcomes Work closely with multiple teams to ensure successful design delivery: Participate in sprint ceremonies and team collaboration sessions Collaborate with fellow designers on project deliverables and design solutions Work with Product Owners and Product Managers to maintain UX standards when implementing UI solutions Partner with developers to ensure effective implementation and integration of design components Collaborate with QA and testing teams when conducting UI audits or identifying usability issues and edge cases Nice to Have Experience with React Strong experience in one or more of the following areas: Documentation design and maintenance Accessibility and WCAG compliance Performance Metrics Success in this role will be measured by: Quality and usability of designed interfaces and implemented components Consistent adherence to accessibility and usability standards Clear communication of progress, challenges, and outcomes Contribution to improving the design system and overall UX quality Employment Equity Morae is committed to Employment Equity and transformation.
