UX Project Lead
We are seeking an experienced UX Project Lead to drive the end-to-end redesign of a government digital hiring experience built on the PeopleSoft platform. You will collaborate with an Innovation Team, a Human Resources department, and multiple city agencies to transform how job applicants and hiring staff interact with a large-scale public sector recruitment system. This is a high-visibility contract role for a seasoned UX professional who thrives at the intersection of design, enterprise technology, and public service delivery.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end UX/UI design of a PeopleSoft-based digital hiring platform, from discovery through implementation.
- Drive a large-scale, multi-stakeholder transformation spanning government departments and external agencies.
- Facilitate cross-departmental workshops to map business processes against user research and technical capabilities.
- Conduct usability testing and synthesize findings to identify pain points for both job applicants and hiring staff.
- Create site maps, flow diagrams, storyboards, wireframes, and high-fidelity visual designs within the PeopleSoft system.
- Apply and maintain a UI style guide across all hiring portal pages.
- Partner with PeopleSoft experts to prioritize and implement system changes grounded in user research.
- Lead implementation of approved UX/UI changes in collaboration with technology and HR leadership.
- Monitor performance against defined impact targets and course-correct as needed.
- Champion human-centered design principles and push for creative solutions to complex roadblocks.
Requirements
Required
- 10+ years of professional experience in UX design, human-centered design, visual communication, or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in UX, design, human-computer interaction, or equivalent practical experience.
- Deep expertise in human-centered design: research, synthesis, co-creation, prototyping, testing, and implementation.
- Demonstrated success managing complex digital design and implementation projects in a government or regulated environment.
- Strong ability to conduct user research and translate raw data into actionable insights.
- Experience facilitating workshops and strategic sessions with senior-level stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to explain complex situations clearly to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Figma, Miro, Adobe XD/Sketch (or equivalent), and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with HTML.
- Strong project management skills with a proven track record of delivering measurable results on time and within budget.
- High resilience and adaptability when working with stakeholders at varying levels of digital fluency.
- Genuine commitment to improving government services and public-facing technology.
Preferred
- Familiarity with PeopleSoft HCM or similar enterprise HR platforms.
- Prior experience in digital transformation or HR/hiring systems redesign.
- Experience working with or within government innovation teams or civic tech initiatives.
