About the role

The Opportunity

Our client is a prominent player in the Canadian data center sector — developing, building, and operating mission-critical facilities across the country. As they scale their portfolio in the GTA and beyond, they are seeking a Vice President, Engineering to lead all engineering functions across the Data Center division. This is an executive-level mandate with full ownership over technical strategy, engineering standards, and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide executive-level technical leadership across all data center engineering disciplines — electrical, mechanical, structural, and civil
  • Own the engineering strategy for the division, including design standards, specifications, and technical governance
  • Lead and grow an internal engineering team; manage external design consultants and engineering partners
  • Drive technical due diligence on new sites, expansions, and acquisitions
  • Oversee MEP design, power infrastructure, cooling systems, and critical systems redundancy (N+1, 2N)
  • Collaborate with construction, operations, and ownership teams to ensure seamless project delivery from design through commissioning
  • Ensure all engineering work complies with applicable codes and standards (ASHRAE, TIA-942, Uptime Institute)
  • Represent the engineering function at the executive level — board presentations, client meetings, and strategic planning

What You Bring

  • 15+ years of engineering experience with a strong focus on mission-critical or data center facilities
  • Proven leadership at the VP, Director, or Senior Principal level
  • Deep expertise in MEP systems — power distribution, UPS, generators, HVAC/cooling
  • Experience with Tier III and Tier IV data center design and commissioning
  • P.Eng. designation (Ontario) required or eligibility for licensure
  • Strong understanding of Canadian electrical and building codes
  • Experience working across development, GC, or owner/operator environments
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Critical Requirement:

Candidates must bring direct, hands-on experience delivering large-scale data center projects in a technical leadership capacity. Familiarity with hyperscale or colocation environments is a strong asset.
