This role leads all Canadian finance operations-including regulatory reporting, tax, treasury, and IFRS financial statementswithin a highly regulated, fast‑paced capital markets environment. It provides strategic influence with senior leadership while overseeing the Canadian finance team and ensuring alignment with global finance functions.
Our client is a global financial services institution operating in the investment banking and capital markets industry. The organization has an established international presence and offers a full range of services across equities, fixed income, corporate finance, and asset management. This role supports the Canadian entity within a highly regulated, fast‑paced capital markets environment.
Responsibilities
- Act as the lead finance business partner supporting the Canada CFO and Treasurer for finance, regulatory reporting, tax, and treasury.
- Lead monthly and annual financial statement preparation under IFRS and CIRO rules.
- Review financial statements, reconciliations, variance analyses, and provide insights against budget.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits and regulatory reviews.
- Oversee working papers, schedules, and documentation for audits.
- Review or prepare direct and indirect tax provisions with external consultants.
- Support corporate finance, treasury, and tax matters and ensure alignment with global accounting and reporting teams.
- Collaborate with Controllers, Treasury, Tax, and FP&A to meet reporting deadlines.
- Recommend improvements to reporting processes, internal controls, and taxation matters.
- Ensure internal controls are designed and operating effectively.
- Lead and mentor the Canadian finance team, fostering continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA or equivalent designation.
- 8 to 10+ years of experience in broker‑dealer, banking, auditing, capital markets, or financial services.
- Strong knowledge of CIRO, OSC, OSFI, CRA and related regulatory frameworks.
- Advanced understanding of financial and non‑financial risk management for financial institutions.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interact with senior management.
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
- Self‑motivated, accountable, and results‑driven.
