Role Overview

The Technical Specialist – Well‑Being Capacity will lead the design, development, and delivery of comprehensive well‑being and psychosocial support initiatives for staff across all operational regions. Working closely with country offices, program teams, and senior management, you will build capacity, promote shared learning, and embed a culture of care that enhances staff performance, retention, and overall mission impact.


Key Responsibilities

Area Core Activities
Strategic Design & Planning • Conduct needs assessments and gap analyses on staff well‑being across regions.
• Develop a multi‑year technical strategy and work plan aligned with organizational policies and donor requirements.
• Integrate well‑being considerations into program design, HR processes, and emergency response protocols.
Capacity Building & Training • Design and deliver interactive training modules (e.g., stress management, trauma‑informed care, resilience building, peer‑support systems).
• Facilitate workshops, webinars, and on‑site coaching for staff at all levels, including senior leadership.
• Create a repository of training materials, toolkits, and e‑learning resources.
Collaboration & Coordination • Partner with country offices, regional hubs, and thematic units to tailor interventions to local contexts.
• Serve as the primary technical liaison for well‑being initiatives with external partners, NGOs, and UN agencies.
• Convene and moderate learning communities, knowledge‑exchange platforms, and best‑practice forums.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) • Establish indicators and data‑collection tools to assess the effectiveness of well‑being interventions.
• Produce regular analytical reports, case studies, and impact assessments for senior management and donors.
• Translate findings into actionable recommendations and continuous improvement cycles.
Advocacy & Communication • Champion staff well‑being within the organization, influencing policy and resource allocation.
• Develop communication campaigns (newsletters, intranet posts, videos) to raise awareness and promote uptake of services.
• Represent the organization at conferences, webinars, and stakeholder meetings on mental health and humanitarian workforce resilience.
Operational Support • Provide technical guidance on crisis‑specific well‑being responses (e.g., during outbreaks, natural disasters, conflict escalations).
• Ensure compliance with ethical standards, confidentiality, and data protection in all well‑being activities.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Requirement Details
Education Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, Human Resources, International Development, or a related field. A Master’s degree is highly desirable.
Professional Experience Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in capacity building, psychosocial support, mental health promotion, or staff well‑being within humanitarian, development, or large‑scale NGO settings.
Technical Expertise Proven ability to design and deliver training curricula; strong knowledge of trauma‑informed approaches, resilience frameworks, and occupational health standards.
Languages Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential. Proficiency in a second UN language (French, Arabic, Spanish, etc.) is an asset.
Travel Willingness and ability to travel up to 20 % of the time, including to remote or insecure locations.
Core Competencies • Excellent facilitation and presentation skills.
• Strong analytical and report‑writing abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively across cultures and time zones.
• High emotional intelligence, discretion, and a commitment to staff welfare.
