About the Role
The Wireless Construction Manager collaborates with the project manager to manage the day‑to‑day operations of telecommunications construction projects. You will work closely with the field implementation team and direct subcontractors performing the building, installation, maintenance, and testing of wireless telecommunications towers and other network infrastructure. As a wireless construction manager, your duties are to supervise the technical crew, act as a job site representative, coordinate with utility companies, handle negotiations for bids, prepare contracts, RFPs and troubleshoot problems as they arise. The individual must be willing to adapt to a flexible work schedule from time to time, especially for cutover events.
Essential Duties
- Collaborate with project management, site acquisition, engineering, supply chain and operations primes to prioritize and schedule project deliverables (20% of time).
- Own the general contractor relationship and manage general contractor workload to deliver projects safely, efficiently, on‑time, and on‑budget (20%).
- Inspect and review contractor work to ensure compliance with Xplore standards, CAN/CSA‑S37 standards, contract documents, project drawings and site design parameters (10%).
- Produce Request for Quote (RFQ) bid packages for General Contractors, complete bid analysis and award work (20%).
- Ensure all change orders/requests between team members and contractor representatives are properly documented (e.g., verbal agreement followed up with a PO immediately) (5%).
- Conduct on‑site visits during acquisition/planning phase to develop site plans that align with Xplore’s deployment practices (10%).
- Host Pre‑Construction meetings to produce Method of Procedure (MOP) documents detailing steps required to accomplish work in accordance with best practices and change management policies (15%).
Minimum Knowledge / Requirements
- Effective written, verbal and listening communication skills
- Ability to perform at a high pace and under pressure
- Good knowledge of wireless telecommunications networks and infrastructure
- Knowledge of permitting and other construction requirements
- Working knowledge of all applicable Acts, Regulations and Codes
- In‑depth understanding of the various disciplines involved in the site construction process
- Ability to break down complex tasks into easy‑to‑follow steps and document clear methods of procedure
- Experience with change management
- Telecommunications construction knowledge
- Ability to read and interpret construction contracts and engineered drawings
- Ability to prepare cost estimates and schedules
- Ability to effectively and appropriately delegate workload
- Strong decision‑making, time‑management, and attention‑to‑detail skills
- 2–5 years of experience in the construction of wireless telecommunications sites
- 2–5 years of experience working with vendors and general contractors on construction projects
- Experience preparing, writing and managing construction and supply RFP documents
- Experience with wireline construction
- Project management experience
- Understanding of IP networks and wireless network components
- Completion of a related post‑secondary diploma/degree or equivalent through a combination of education and/or experience.
