What Challenges You
Shaping the Future
We research and develop electronics and software for space travel and conduct our own satellite missions. A focus is on processing image data on board satellites.
Utilizing Creativity and Research Freedom
You will design and develop innovative software for satellites and the necessary ground infrastructure. You will develop solutions for the reliable use of high-performance electronics in space missions. You will contribute to the success of both our own missions and those of our clients, enabling new applications in the fields of earth observation and security.
Taking Responsibility
You will work in an environment with a high degree of creative freedom. Your technical expertise is in demand, and you are a competent contact person for our clients and partners. You will take responsibility in national and international projects.

Creativity requires a lot of communication: Together with you, we want to shape teamwork – you are an active part of the scientific discourse, coordinate research work with international project partners, and present your research results in the form of reports and publications to our clients/partners as well as at events in the national and international environment.
What You Bring
- You have completed a university degree (Master/Diploma) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM field.
- You are interested in developing software and electronic systems for space travel and have knowledge of C, Python, and Git.
- Ideally, you have prior knowledge of Embedded Linux (Yocto), real-time operating systems (e.g., Zephyr), FPGA development (VHDL, AMD Vivado, Lattice Radiant), or digital circuit design.
- Experience with the specific requirements and technologies (e.g., redundancy, radiation effects, CCSDS protocols) in space travel is an advantage.
- You apply your ability to think and work analytically and conceptually in a results-oriented manner.
- You enjoy working independently and enrich the interdisciplinary project teams in our department with your independent, communicative, and structured way of working.
- German and English language skills at a minimum B2 level, both written and spoken, complete your profile.

The position is initially limited to 2 years. The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position can also be filled on a part-time basis. Employment, remuneration, and social benefits are based on the collective agreement for the public sector (TVöD). In addition, Fraunhofer may grant performance- and success-related variable remuneration components.
