About

As an AI Automation Engineer (d/m/w), you are in the thick of it: You bring in-depth knowledge of current AI and ML approaches, work hands-on on prototypes and benchmarks, and accompany teams on their journey from idea through experiment to production. You design blueprints, facilitate in changing teams, and drive the further development of the domain together with your colleagues.

Of course, you can work flexibly from home. Since we also highly value personal encounters on-site, we meet weekly in our office in Freiburg im Breisgau.

Responsibilities

• Enablement & Facilitation: You work closely with various feature teams, identify automation potential, and support them in systematically exploring and implementing it. You are a sparring partner for all questions concerning AI and ML.
• Experiments & Benchmarks: You conceptualize and conduct hands-on experiments to evaluate the feasibility of automation approaches – from selecting suitable models and preparing appropriate data foundations to transparently communicating results and iterative optimization.
• Blueprints & Best Practices: You develop reusable blueprints and ensure that state-of-the-art knowledge is available within the team and the organization.
• Accompanying into Production: You accompany the path from successful experiments into productive use – including topics such as compliance, safety, scaling, and monitoring.
• Domain Development: You actively shape the new Automation Enablement domain – from your own working methods to strategic alignment.

Requirements

• Data Craftsmanship: Solid knowledge of Python and SQL is a given for you. You have experience in data analysis, data preparation, and working with synthetic data or labeling strategies.
• AI & ML Expertise: You have several years of practical experience with Machine Learning and Large Language Models, as well as common frameworks and libraries (e.g., PyTorch, Scikit-learn, Hugging Face). You are familiar with current approaches such as fine-tuning, prompt engineering, agentic systems, and AI-related protocols (e.g., MCP, A2A) and keep yourself up-to-date on new developments independently.
• MLOps & Deployment: You know how to not only train AI models but also reliably bring them into production and operate them – ideally in the cloud. Experience with CI/CD for ML workflows, model monitoring, and scaling is a big plus.
• Teamwork & Communication: You are able to quickly adapt to changing team contexts and act as a facilitator and knowledge carrier there. Transparent communication and resilience characterize you.

• As a Scrum Master, Friederike creates the framework in which we can work effectively as a team and take responsibility. In her free time, she likes to be out and about and spends a lot of time with friends and family.
• Ralf loves gaining insights from data as a Data Scientist. He helps his team to better understand the interplay between customers and AI in order to build even better products. He prefers to spend his free time with his family, climbing, or making music (guitar and bass).
• Camilla, as a Data Scientist, is a potential sparring partner to drive automation topics forward in her team with your support. In her free time, she prefers to be out in nature with her family and her dog or tries out Freiburg's restaurants.
